>Remember that really old movie, "The Empire strikes back"?
I don't understand why /co/ and /tv/ autists get so triggered by this part, it was a LIGHT-HEARTED JOKE.

Even assuming a 15 year old has watched the originals, it's still a pretty damn old movie - nearly 36 years old. When a movie or a TV show hits 20+ years old, that's when it starts becoming "old" and ready for nostalgia-consumption.

Because it had a sequel recently and is probably one of the most famous movie franchise ever.

Spiderman was born after the Y2K scare and raised by someone other than whatever the word for trekkie equivalents is.

It's like your parents complaining that you don't know the particulars of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" off the top of your head.

>>
>>82685811
Sad as it is to admit, if he's 15 in present day even as a nerd it's unlikely he would have dug into Star Wars too much. All of the star wars movies made during his lifetime were trash and he would only be 2-5 years old when episodes 2 and 3 came out. Even episode 1 predates his birth.

He's right to not use AT-ATs. Do you really think the Avengers know what AT-ATs and Hoth are? Tony, maybe. I don't think Warmachine cares for that. AT-ATs were never said in the movie, and Hoth was only said a couple of times.

This. I think some anons in 4chan expect people to remember obscure trivia about sci-fi movies. Peter was right to assume that these new people he just met are normies and that they don't know what Hoth or AT-ATs are, or what Empire Strikes Back is.

I know people who are aware of Star Wars, recognize the actors/characters, but still get the titles wrong.

It's really not obscure.
If he started talking about hating sand or unlimited power, then it'd be kinda obscure.
>>
>>82686227

I think a lot of people who were exposed to Star Wars in the 80s and 90s thought it would be immune to aging.

The OT is rapidly approaching that "my name is Ozymandias, king of kings, look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!" moment, and we're just not ready to accept that the once-grand statue is now just two legs, around which the lone and level sands stretch far away.
>>
>>82686227
Anons lack perspective sometimes. When you spend too much time in nerdy sites and with nerdy people, you often forget that there are normies who don't know much about nerdy shit.

Everybody knows Star Wars, but not the particulars like AT-ATs, Hoth, or even the exact titles. Some people even get the character names wrong.

Where's that facebook image of a girl who typed Spock's name wrong?

>He's a massive tech buff
>This means he's a huge Star Wars buff
Did it occur to you that maybe he watched the original movies once when he was a kid, liked them (thus remembering this scene) but instead of dedicating his life to studying the deep and intricate lore of Star Wars and memorizing what model of Corellian Freighter the Millenium Falcon is, and what the various AT-AT and AT-ST, and ATT and other names are, he instead studied technology?
Maybe he can make those web shooters because instead of wasting his time fangasming over Star Wars, he concentrated on study?

Plus let's be honest, a science buff is more likely to be reading Asimov and watching Star Trek, than reading about the adventures of Kyle Katarn. Could be both, but he's not obligated to be knowledgeable of all nerddom.
>>
>>82686287

Rhodes seem to be a guy who knows Star Wars but don't know the particulars.
>>
It's like you idiots forgot no one outside autists on this website gives a fuck about star wars.
You're all deluded if you think the normies that flood the theaters for these movies know anything about star wars other than "I am your father", me am yoda talking and force references.
So tell me how normies, the people this is made for, would know what AT-ATs are when they are never called that in the movie or why they would even give a shit about a 40 year old movie. They don't, so we get references like this.

>>
>>82686475
Your perspective is clouded. You spend your time in nerdy sites with nerdy people. Anons are not lying when they say things like Hoth and AT-ATs are deep SW trivia for normies. Peter was right to assume the Avengers are normies, or to keep his power level hidden.

I've known what they are since I was in high school.
If you've ever seen a family guy cutaway or RC sketch about Star Wars, then you've probably heard of Hoth and ATAT'S

>>82686534
Uh... people definitely talk like that. It's not weird at all.
>>
>>82686490

Which is funny, because him being an awkward dork about it would have been in-character AND they could have fellated Disney like they intended. This sounded like the writers were embarassed of referencing Star Wars but were still forced to.
>>
>>82686449

Dude, just because the media hypes SW harder than the church does Jesus Christ doesn't mean normies care enough to remember stuff particular stuff from the movies. It's arguably one of the most well known "geek" franchises, but it's still a "geek"franchise. For the majority of people, SW is just another blockbuster, forgotten as soon as the next one comes out.
>>
>>82686555
yeah because Tony Stark watches family guy and robot chicken

>>82686475

>>
>>82686555

>>
>>82686555
That's even a crazier claim. You really think a lot of people watch Family Guy and RC? Peter was right not to assume they also watch FG or RC.
>>
Hell I frequent /co/ and I love science fiction stuff and even I didn't know it was called an AT-AT until now. If you were to ask me about the "ice planet" from Star Wars, I wouldn't be able to tell you it was Hoth off the top of my head, especially not in a battle.
>>
Someone post that video of the mother who thought Hamill was Han Solo
>>
>>82686567
Star Wars has been retold and referenced for like twenty years straight. There is not one person who doesn't recognize that there's a scene in Star Wars where a robot gets tripped.

Unless Peter Parker has absolutely no exposure to American culture, he is familiar with the scene.
>>
>>82686475
The only reason I know what Hoth and the AT-AT's names are, is because I played Star Wars games like Rebellion and Rogue Squadron where they actually display those names.
The movie makes one passing mention of Hoth's name, and it's not exactly as important or iconic as "Go to the Dagobah system", and it doesn't come up in 4 different movies like Tatooine.

Can you for example name the plane where General Greivous was located in Revenge of the Sith? It's Utapau, but you probably had to think a little bit about it.
Can you say what the name of the 6 legged walkers in Attack of the Clones is?
How about the also iconic droid tanks in Phantom Menace?

At this point you're probably thinking "Yeah, but that shit is from the prequels, no one gives a shit about the prequels." but that's kind of the point. Peter Parker doesn't have to give a shit about Star Wars. He's not required to have played Star Wars Battlefront. Infact, he almost definetly didn't play the games created by Lucas Arts, which are the source of information for most people know these names.
>>
>>82686572
>tfw I didn't even know they were called AT-ATs

I wasn't really into SW and my parents don't watch movies, d-don't judge me.
>>
>>82686604
yeah and the scene never refers to the robot as an AT-AT
>>
It pisses people off because sixteen or not, there's no way that Peter wouldn't have seen Empire or know the proper name for those things.
>>
>>82686572
Spider-Man is supposed to be a nerdy guy who cares about this shit
>>
Disney what are you doing? Quip about TFA and leave my OT alone.
>>
>>82686632
And Tony Stark and Rhodes would?

"Remember that scene on Hoth when the AT-AT was tripped"

"Uh what the fuck are you talking about Peter"
>>
>>82686632
But anon.
Peter did see the movie, that's why he references it.

And read >>82686607 because AT-ATs are not named outside of books and games.
>>
>>82686604
And that's what he did. He referenced that familiar scene in a way that would be recognizable to the normiest of the normies. He was right to assume everyone in that airport are normies.
>>
>>82686637

>>82686624

>>
>it's a Walt Disney Company damage control thread

No really, anon. AT-ATs were not mentioned in the movies. They were called walkers. Go outside right now and ask people about AT-ATs.

Disney doesn't need defending, but your claim about AT-ATs is wrong. You have surrounded yourself with these nerdy trivia that you seem to think they're normal, everyday things now. Star Wars is normie central now, but not everyone knows about names like Hoth, AT-ATs, etc. I shit you not when normies who act like they know Star Wars even get the character names wrong.

It's normie to know what Star Wars is, and what "Luke, I am your father" and talking like Yoda are. Things like AT-ATs and Hoth and even Tatooine are moonrunes to normies.

I mean, I know the whole thing that everyone including a nerd should know about the ESB because its a famous movie etc but it's still a harmless joke, and you know the above is just true.

This is a generation that's going to have one hell of a midlife crisis, when the ACTUAL age you're supposed to have it finally rolls around.
>>
>>82686828
The actual line was

Everyone would understand that. And even just snow planet would be enough for most people.
>>
>>82686810
That's because you explain it in such a normie sense.

>Remember that Ice Planet in SW with the big walking robots?

I think it's because Star Wars is currently really popular, so it's normal to just refer to it casually.

Then again if I talk to old people (in their 40s or 50s) who are working on serious stuff, I would assume they're normies.

Anons also forget that Peter was trying to look cool and have a good impression to people. Being nerdy about things like SW would only imply an image that he's one of those nerdy kids who go to comic cons. So personally I just thought he tried to downplay knowing about SW.

>tfw have never cared about or payed attention to Star Wars at all and knew that they were called AT-ATs and the planet was called Hoth

Never even watched the original trilogy all the way through or any of the prequels.
>>
Nigga, I LIKE the star wars movies, and didn't know they were ATATs

Remember Anons, Spider-Man hates Star Wars.
>>
I only know about that shit because of video games. It's really not said in the movie

I can't believe people got triggered over this
>>
>>82687905
The beauty of it, is that people are reacting the exact way that the characters who portray their general age group reacted.
>>
>>82687967
But people are more triggered by the triggering.

I didn't know what either of those were till Spidy actually pulled off the move. I'm 29 and the orginial movies like sometime back in the 90s.

You've been spending too much time here or one of those faggots who watch big bang theory. And are trying to be "just like us nerds right guys?"

But spidey used "snow planet" and "walker thingy"

He never said AT-AT or Hoth
>>
>>82686475
Were those things even called that in the movie? I always thought they were just called Imperial Walkers. If you only ever saw the movies it's not like you'd know their actual name.
>>
>>82688123
AT-ATs were never referred to by their official names in the movies. Hoth was referred to by name in the scrolling text at the beginning of the film, but as far as I'm aware, no one ever speaks the name out loud.

So.. he did what most people would do. Which proves my point. People would be lost if he named the shit but describing a famous scene makes way more sense.

>>
>>82688167
It proves that you are talking about a movie you haven't even seen.

What the fuck do you get out of this?
Did you see this thread and though "man this thread can't go without my uninformed opinions"?
>>
>all these people upset that Spider-man referred to Star Wars as some "old movie"

Yeah. Who would refer to Empire, a movie so obviously well known to us all, as an "old movie" as if we or his team wouldn't know what fucking Star Wars is. Everyone knows about that movie... you'd have to be some sort of INCREDIBLY YOUNG KID to not think that we all know about it.

If only Rhodey responded to that line by pointing out how fucking young Spider-Man is.

Oh wait guys. I think that was the joke.
Oh boy. This sure is embarrassing, huh?

You're right, random alpha nerd. Clearly, the only people who retain information about their hobbies are eltisist hyper autists who spend all their free time shitposting at normies for lulz. You've shown me the error of my ways. No longer will I feel the least bit of excitement when exposed to films and video games, and shun all impetus to investigate things which captivate me.
>>
>>82688214
Your post would seem really retarded if nobody here did that.

Oh wait guys. I think nobody did.
Oh boy! This sure is embarrassing, huh?
>>
>>82688253
But the line literally refers to snow planet and walking thingy

Which movie are you talking about?
>>
>>82685811
616 Spidey mistaken Spock as the Helmsman of the NCC 1701-A Enterprise until Doctor Doom corrected meaning so he's not a big sci-fi culture nerd.
>>
I come back to the thread hours later and you faggots are still arguing whether "walker thingy" is retarded because it's not the official label instead of it being something no actual human being would ever say.

And you're a huge coward if you don't acknowledge that Star Wars is a massive multi media juggernaut. With fucking branded FOOD of all things. "Oh if someone didn't pay close attention to the film, how could they ever have known about it?" Gee I dunno faggot, maybe they saw one of the billion toys they've been making since before any of us were born.
>>
>>82688353
>coward for not acknowledging popularity of Star Wars

literally wut
>>
>>82688311
I dont know what it is with people thinking that just because Spidey is super smart and pretty awkwardly dorky it means he has to adhere to some strict code of what hobbies and things he needs to be knowledgeable about.
>>
>>82688353
Why would normies pay attention to toys?
>>
>>82688353
You sure are saying a whole lot of shit that means nothing, impressive.
>>
>>82685783

I think that what makes the line awkward is that there's no reference to it being a Star Wars film.

If the line was something like
>Remember that old Star Wars film, with the walkers on the snow planet?
I think it'd have worked better. Empire is an old movie now, but it's an old movie that's in the cultural subconscious.
>>
>>82688601

>>
>>82688254
Remembering the background details of movies they saw when they were children isn't a hobby for normal people. Most people have trouble recalling the names of background characters in things they're currently watching, how the fuck do you expect them to remember trivia about a movie they saw years ago? They'll remember the actual important shit, like the main characters, and more from hearing it repeated endlessly in everything that references it than from actual memory.
>>
I just figured it was Spidy making a joke about how everyone else was so much older then him

Please read the post mate. I saw the movies back in the 90s and even then wouldn't remember the name of a fucking walker two months after the fact.

Not everyone is on a vehicle name basis with films. Why is this so hard to believe?

>>82688254
You're trying to argue something. I"m not sure what. Maybe you should just talk to a mirror until you understand what is being discussed if this does not sum it up:

Not everyone remembers details about every sci-fi film they've ever seen. Spider-man's explanation fit perfectly fine with events. If he started naming ATs then that would have also been a-ok to show he like star wars. Losing your shit because somebody didn't get the reference is full retard.
