Does anyone give a shit about Black Panther? I'd very interested to hear what black /co/mmrades think about him especially.
>>
>>82602854
No fucks on this end, chief.

However as an amateur creator I can understand and respect Kirby's choice to pop him out upon reflection of his writing. Sometimes it's not about being PC or there being a demand of anything and it's more just a question of why you can't write something, a sense of lacking capacity to explore ideas outside the norm.

He's archenemy is this weird "hard-sound" jester guy from the original Secret Wars, right? It will be interesting to see him on screen, mo-capped by Andy Serkins at least.

He's had one awesome run in Chris Priest. One shitty run in Hudlin. I haven't read the pre 1980's stuff.

Yes. Although he's not really a jester, that characterization was unique to Secret Wars. He went mad for reasons I cannot remember.

I didn't care at all. Thought he was boring as fuck, generic hero in a crappy costume, simply there to be the token black guy.

He's pretty badass, but I think he's more interesting as an "antagonist" than as a protagonist. I mean, he's strong, his suit makes him practically invulnerable, he's a king now, he's got his shit together, he went above revenge. He's just kinda complete. Where do you take him from there? What do you do with him? I can't imagine.

Currently he's boring in the comics and the MCU. Modern Panther in the comics should be more like Jungle Action but with more Pulp far more Pulp.

Make him The King Of The Dead again.

Bring back the interracial bromance with Namor.

Don't give Panther a singular romance he is a fucking king let the Dora Milaje be his warrior wives.

As an African American comic book reader, I personally have never read any Black Panther stories but I do know of the character. Sure, I enjoyed Civil War to the fullest, but I was more awake for Ant-Man's role than anyone else.

I think that he is an example of an exceptionally well done black character. He is extremely powerful and reserved as a king should be He is shown to be intelligent while also being able to be above alot of the marvel universes squabbles unless it affects his people.

I feel he is amongst the few truly interesting black characters in mainstream comics which is nice when you are a black kid and get to see well done representation.
Outside of black panther I think Icon(wheres muh milestone u) ,miles, and Luke cage.

Shit tier IMO are falcon and cyborg.

>>
>>82613449
I kinda feel the same way. Just saw the movie today. I REALLY liked this version of T'Chaka and T'Challa. Yes, they have their cool accent, heavy traditions, etc, but this royal family is willing to get involved in territories that have a need. There isn't an amazing amount of isolationist bullshit going on. This alone took away a big stumbling block for me giving a shit about BP.

It's obvious that this version's eaten the heart-shaped herb (goes toe to toe with super soldier serum targets Cap & Bucky), has a decent suit, etc. I wanna see his film now, but it makes me wonder how many films the Russos are going to direct, and if this will be one of them.

This needs to be in forfront for some reason.
Obviously I hate SJW horse shit and the tumb/co/ that is the current cluster fuck.

That being said I fucking love the Black Panther.
When you first read him in the books he kinda comes off as a mary stu
>Fruit makes him beyond Super Solider
>Huge Scientific mind among wakandins huge minds.
>Great king/Wise controlled ruler

And then you read more about him and you realize that he is just a wise bad ass. Like an African Cap/Spiderman.
The movies had me in the same way, I was scared they were going to go
>MUH BLACK KING CANNOT BE BEAT
>MUH LADY WINDOW
And then the explosion happened and they just used him so well after that. He was badass when he fought. Stealthy when he needed to be. Wise and just when punishment came and was able to see his own flaws.

The Black Panther is the Hero black youths NEED. He is a rad dude, up there with the greats.

Also the black chick warrior, while spot in like in the books, was just as insufferable to watch.
>>
Am black and I like BP when he's written by literally anyone who isn't a BET employee.

Priest and Don McGregor's runs are the GOATS runs imo.
>>
>>82616574
Black Panther is good because his world and his character are set in a fully realized mythos that lends itself to stories built on classic archetypes and themes deeper than social commentary or appealing to a certain demographic.

If you like sword and sorcery pulp adventures set in an archeofuturist landscape with occasional geopolitical machinations and conflicts, you'll like Black Panther. I'm drawn to Black Panther as a character because, like T'Challa, I see myself as a traditional man who shoulders the burden of preserving my ways in a non traditional world while trying to find my place in it. The Warrior King archetype makes for some of my favorite Marvel heroes, Black Panther, Namor, Dr. Doom and Black Bolt just to name a few.

Also, the Dora Milaje don't aim to be sufferable.
>>
>>82603165
People need to stop sleeping on McGregor's BP run. I know Priest is the go-to run and that McGregor's is hard to find now, but fuck me it's a good book.
>>
>>82616829
>Also, the Dora Milaje don't aim to be sufferable
I know, and truthfully they have every right to be SUPER aggressive.
It just gets on my nerves in the same way that wakanda feels like it has a giant ratio of super intelligent normal people than damn near anywhere else.

I get the in book reasons, and I'm cool with it, its just so jarring when the only place close is latvaria when its not a rural old gothic farm country.

McGregor's Black Panther is a prime example of what I think makes for the best superhero stories. You start with a poorly conceived, under selling concept that was hastily put out, like the first volume of Jungle Action with it's shitty Tarzan knock off, then because it's so undervalued, it's given to a writer who is allowed complete creative freedom to built the world and the story they want within the limitations of the book, in this case needing to be a story taking place in Africa with a jungle setting. From there, we get to see writers imagination run wild and create cozy, vividly detailed settings within the wider world it's set in filled with it's own unique characters and personality.

Daredevil and Hell's Kitchen is another prime example of this.
>>

I saw a lot of stuff like that at my event. Lots of kids asking for characters from cartoons or the movies, I think it's really cool to see kids getting into comics.
>>
>>82617041
Oh yes!

I've always wondered why we really don't see this kind of thing happening now a days. The closest thing I can think of is Silk maybe? Her solo book is good since the writers could really flesh out her character without Slott's influence on the character. I'm sure someone else here can think of another one though.
>>
>>82616932
Wakanda is ruled under a very strict class based social hierarchy. If you are born in Wakanda, you will be initiated into the role you are most properly suited for in your society as discerned by your leaders, and you will be raised to understand this as your duty to your culture and your people. They have such a strong people because of this clarity of vision and adherence to tradition.

I would never make this point personally, but the criticism that should be levied against them in universe is that their societal structure is in truth the antithesis to what people would understand as freedom and democracy.
>>
>>82617235
Most of this happened in a time when Marvel and DC were putting out a lot of hastily made shelf filler books to compete with other comics, which were able to set the stage for better things to come later. We don't get that now.

>>
>>82619380
A writer hyped his OC, gee imagine that.
Ask anybody a little less prone to bias and you'll be told it's Klaw. Presuming McGregor even believes it himself and wasn't just spouting typical Marvel marketing hyperbole, just needs a "most" and an "of all". Killmonger fucked with Wakanda for a few months, big whoop. So did Achebe, and Doom, and Kruel, etc.. Klaw killed his fucking dad. The depth of hatred just doesn't compare.

And I reiterate, I prefer Killmonger. He's cooler. Really hope he makes it into the movies. I also prefer Venom to Green Goblin, doesn't magically make him the guy who killed Gwen Stacy.

Black guy here, don't really give a shit about him. But I don't really give a shit about marvel in general.
>>
>>82625122
Yes, that's exactly what I said.
He didn't create Black Panther. He's just one of 50 years worth of writers to use him. If Slott called Regent Spider-Man's true archnemesis tomorrow everyone would laugh at him.

Whenever Killmonger & Panther meet, they banter and engage in honorable combat. Sure each holds a grudge against the other, but there's also respect. Killmonger wants to rule Wakanda, at the end of the day Panther's an obstacle to a greater goal.
Whenever Klaw & Panther meet, they lunge at each other's throats Peter & The Chicken style. Klaw's entire characterization is wanting to kill Panther and Panther wanting to kill Klaw is one of his few guilty pleasures he allows himself. Not to mention Klaw's also appeared far more often than Killmonger, and that even when he appears in non-Panther comics his motivations still somehow loop back around to killing Panther.
>>

>thought he'd spend less time furiously running at Bucky though based on what little I know about him
In T'Challa's first comic appearance he's been king for many years, and dad-less since childhood. He's yet to go through the development his position forces upon him that makes him the character you know about, letting go of his anger & sparing Zemo was the first step.
