Why do so many comics and cartoons eventually split into a multi-verse? It seems so fucking convoluted 90% of the time and plots end up becoming too fucking stupid to comprehend / drag the quality of a story down massively? Why does it happen /co/?

Nerds like their plots to be connected and consistent. Nevermind the amount of jumps and complications required to connect all the works of fiction from an entire franchise together. It's why you see stuff like pixar theory.
I suppose it's some pattern recognition shit in our minds. We want everything to fit in place properly.

Wasn't there some theory that shows that go beyond a certain number of seasons required a substantial increase in pay for the actors, and that was why ongoing shows are retooled (and renamed) on a regular basis?
