The "never see you again" part was probably misunderstanding of the teachings because someone used the idea that you can't interact with people outside the "truth" to grab them and drag them deeper.
I have a grandmother that's heavily into the "truth" (what they call being in the religion) and I literally can't talk to her about anything serious or watch the news or TV with her because it always falls back to "Jehovah will clean all this up during armageddon, this is the end times, this system of things is a sign that the end is near, etc".
