any current or former MAD readers here?
>>
I browse Cracked frequently. Does that count?
>>
Haven't bought a MAD-mag in a while.

Still a huge fan though.
>>
I think the only issues I pick now are the 20 Dumbest Lists
>>
I used to buy it every month. I recently found my old mags and read through them and I just didn't find them as funny. Spy vs Spy is still as good as ever, though.

I was practically raised on the pocketbook-sized paperback reprints of classic strips from 1950s and 1960s MAD magazines. Good stuff, and those books served as my introduction to the art of legends like Wally Wood, Joe Orlando, Kelly Freas, and Mort Drucker. Re-read those things till they fell apart. Potrzebie!

MAD Magazine was fucking great and I always liked MAD TV more than SNL when I was younger.

Haven't bought a magazine in a long time though, stopped buying magazines altogether once the Weekly World News went out.

It just wasn't ever the same after that.
>>
>>82551723
I was when I was a kid, still have the complete Spy VS Spy book around here which reprints some of Argones' pre-Mad work along with unprinted sketches and shit, it's pretty cool.
>>
I buy MAD whenever I see it, it has some of the best cartoon artists out there. I usually donate the magazines after I read them, spread the fun around.

I read it back in the early to mid 80s mostly for the spy vs spy comics.

They also used to really make fun of transgender people a lot in the 80s which was always fun. I haven't read it for over 20 years so I am ntot sure if they still do that, but I doubt it.

It's sad. I remember when Cracked was hilarious and as neutral to all this shit as MAD used to be.

Then fucking Zoey Quinn happened.

Now all they do is re-print articles theydid years ago, re-write articles they did years ago and pretend they didn't, or talk about how terrible the internet is and how they should all be shining beacons of morality like Zoey fucking Quinn.
>>
I read Mad when I was a teenager and some of my uncle's old collections, but lost interest after they started putting in ads.
>>
What do you guys think about the CN version of MAD?

Funniest animated sketch I ever saw was a "Write to Death show"

Kid wrote Death about his problems, and asked for advice.

Death responded with "Dear Billy, you will die on December 5th 2020"

Rest was ok I guess.
>>
Whenever I see a new issue I flip to the back to make sure Al Jaffee is still alive.

>>82553229
I just flipped through my June 2016 issue and the only ads were for Mad collections/subscriptions and the gag ads.
>>
>>82553501

Mad magazine ads back i nthe day used to have everythign from dart guns to blow up dolls. They always had cool shit advertised. Most of it was dangerous toys for teenagers.

I always wanted to order the mini handheld crossbow pistol.

My oldest Mad magazine, presumably from the late 18th century.

The actual oldest one i have is issue 39 from May '58. It's in terrible condition though.

>>82553578
I always used to wonder what would happen if I tried to order something from an ancient mail order catalog.

Not Max Brandel. Fuck him and his shitty self promoting signature, the fuck did he even do other than shit up this picture with his scrawl.

Aragones is my man, and so were the Dons
>>
Been reading Mad for at least 15 years now and yet my favorite stuff is still from before I was born.
>>
>>82554669
Kuper gets a pass for it, he does Spy V Spy. I love his violence and gags, but always did prefer the original art
>>
>>82554669
Max Brandel did a lot of the political stuff in the late 60s/early 70s. brilliant design work in his pieces

Al Jaffee is an absolute goddamn genius. Greatest man ever. Greatest MAD man ever (Aragones, DeBartolo, and Martin also up there)

Remember when MAD used to be funny and would publish a magazine per month?

It was happening well before that anon. You had writers like JF Sargent writing articles about how video games are sexist/racist, "comedy" articles that were mostly guilt trips or semi-autobiographical accounts of the writers shitty lives.

I liked Cracked better. Their website now is utter shit, but the old issues were comedy gold for a kid.
>>
can we talk about how Berg, Drucker, and Jack Rickard drew such insanely hot women
>>
>>82551723
I read the German ones in the 80s
based Herbert Feuerstein
>>
>>82557360
With all the "this is racist/sexist/offensive" kind of stuff they write, wouldn't it be like them doing an article about how Seanbaby is sexist or homophobic based on his early 00's work?
