The original idea behind this team was during Hackman's avengers when the Avengers were off fucking around in space. Hank and Janet would see this and be like "WTF, we're EARTH'S mightiest heroes, why aren't the Avengers protecting Earth" and then they would basically round up the Mighty Avengers again with some Academy students to fill out the roster.

Deathseed Sentry - Heavy Hitter, completely unstable, lives only to avenge the earth because he went off the deep end and saw himself as its cosmic guardian. Ran into Cap while on a rampage in some irrelevant star system trying to find the "destroyer"
Old Steve Rogers -Considerably less able these days but still a brilliant tactician and the only person who can control the Sentry by communicating with Bob inside, he, along with other noteworthy characters was on an Ark Ship to escape the destruction of earth. Last real remnant of American society, moral centre of the team. His brief exposure to the Infinity Gems as they died left him with an ultimately useless form of immortality, he will continue to age but his mind lives on forever.
Odinson - Blames himself for the destruction of earth because Jane had his hammer, Mjolnir was subsequently lost in the chaos and because of the changed enchantment (this was a dumb change but I'll roll with it) neither he nor Odin can call it back so his powers over thunder are permanently lost. Although still a member of the royal family, Thor's resultant loss of martial ability has lead to a diminished relevance on Asgard, so much of his time since has been spent wandering the galaxy searching his hammer.
The Worldmind - Moves around and constitutes itself by possessing the brain dead corpses of other beings, has full access to the Nova Force but is reluctant to use it for fear of permanent loss, seemingly omniscient because of its nature it acts as the info dump machine in the early parts of the run before the plot gets snowballing. Spent so long personally bonded to Rick Rider that it is unable to remove its own desire to see justice for earth, although intellectually it is aware that it should be seeking to re-establish the Nova Corps.

The Dreaming Celestial - The only living being to survive the destruction of earth, doesn't talk or interfere aside from sending vague and confusing messages to Steve and very rarely the Sentry. Used mostly as an unassailable mobile base of operations during down time but might know something more of the destroyer, deep in its eldritch memories.
The ghost of Scarlet Witch - Unable to physically interact with the world, serves mostly as a scout, was used as a conduit in an attempt to bring back those who died on earth. She spent so long in the afterlife, the happiest place possible that she forgot her body was still mortal, and by the time she returned, many decades hence it was space dust. Can now cross between dimensions/realms and bring people with her while doing so. She is performing one final service for the dead before she joins them in heaven, she has infinite time and has great sympathy for Steve who can never die.

The crux of the story is Quill and Rider rip through space time as Reed and Strange are working on making multiversal travel safer through a contract with S.H.E.I.L.D. The energy they are using is a form of solid hydrogen that can only be found in the depths of the Mariana Trench. At the same time Pym and Banner are working together in S.H.E.I.L.D to see if they can combine their research of Pym particles and Gama waves to mitigate the effects of the Hulk. When Quill and Rider rip through the portal the power spike that is released is enough to ping both Stark and Doom. Doom, knowing Reed is responsible, warns him not to play God lest he gets involved. This becomes a Reed makes a mess and Doom has to fix it episode. There is also Giant Hulk and Tiny Hulk shenanigans.

I personally love Jennifer Kale but to each his own. Great lineup though. Now I'm really missing a mystical-inclined team like Midnight Sons or Justice League Dark.
Also, taking Moon Knight, Black Knight and Elsa from your team and combining them with Constantine, Etrigan and Ragman from DC would be a pretty awesome multiversal mystical team. Heck, add Hellboy and Shadowman for extra goodness.
