Was it really that good?
Absolutely. A lot of it's humor was based on current events and gags which though innovative then have now gotten stale (think Seinfeld). It holds up on a rewatch but it isn't the earth mover it once was.

This. It's not exactly timeless because it was topical, but it's very much like classic Looney Toons in that way. Many of the references are no longer relevant, but the humor is still very much there.
