It's the beginning of a new volume, and we start with a classic!
PREVIOUSLY ON X-MEN:
>>82442165
What are you guys reading today?
>>82472659
I myself am checking out that new Beasts of Burden (finally!) and the 3Floyds comic, because it's an Azzarello/Bisley book based on a beer, how insane is that?
>>82472592
I just realize something, the reason of why Kitty is popular is that she was in a lot of stories before the 2000s, while characters like Jubilee,Pixie or Armor, who were suposse to be replacement for Kitty Pryde, they didnt manage to make it because every writer that came to write the x-men had a favorite and they disregarded the character a previous writer was pushing.
>>82472750
Yeah, that's the problem when you've got fans writing for the Big Two.
>>82472659
Cinema purgatory from avatar press, they are doing an antology book like 2000AD, also I read new avengerssongbird is a double double agent
>>82472840
Missed a page
>>82472963
Aaaaaaand a page got deleted for some reason (?)
Hey this story is kinda well known huh. So are we actually getting to New Mutants today or does the title just mean Kitty for now?
>>82473091
Just Kitty for now. We should get to NM in a week or so.
>>82472659
Days of Future, Past
>>82473307
Well, that goes without saying, hah.
>>82472659
Finishing my pre Flashpoint Supergirl storytime.
>>82473165
I thought it was a while off. I was worried about how fast we were flying through!
>>82472659
Realizing I need to finish Standoff to read Thunderbolts. Need to go through the win0 thread
>>82472659
Wait, so we jump right into DoFP when Kitty's barely been on the team?
>>82473543
Yep.
>>82473502
Yeah, we still need to get through Dazzler, the Magik mini and Contest of Champions before NM.
Also, don't worry about us going too fast, things start to slow down in this volume since this is when all the miniseries and X-spinoffs start to show up.
I'm about to start reading Excalibur and it's crazy seeing how so much of it started here
>>82473543
It's a plot point that she's new
a storytime for today's Uncanny X-Men #7 featuring Merry Magneto and his men.
>>82473348
Don't forget to bump for others
Speaking of the New Mutants, the NM movie director just posted a series of pics to his instagram. Seems the team will be Illyana, Dani, Rahne, Bobby, Sam and Warlock
>>82472804
>>82472750
It's a generational thing. In the same way we had Jean Grey come back because of silver age fans entering the industry, the writers who loved Pixie and Armor will eventually get creative control.
>>82473990
Yeah, but by then we won't care about them, we're fickle bitches like that.
>>82473971
I hope that movie doesn't suck.
>>82473971
You can't tell a good New Mutants story without Illyana. The book fell apart without her in volumes 1 and 3.
Besides ellen page how potrayal and waifuism how the hell is kitty that popular.
>>82474214
She runs on pure waifu power, whe has never been 'good"
>>82473971
Dani is literally the most important casting they have to do. Cannot fuck that up
>>82474047
I want to trust boone but it's too early. Hopefully they do demon bear, they should be able to adapt that pretty tight.
>>82474290
Agreed. Illyana and Rahne are just hair and Sam is easy as long as Singer doesn't cast a twink. With bobby they should make him black hispanic (and do a Portuguese accent!) but they'll be able to dance around that if they need to. Dani needs to be a fullblooded native actress and those aren't the most common
X-men would always be better self contained.
>The sentinels took out Thor
>>82474047
Geez, it's like a slow moving train wreck, the tension is incredible for a comic.
>>82474516
You are wrong
>>82474109
I've never seen a single character harpooned so many times. Is Storm like some sort of Moby Dick reference? This is at-least the 6th time she has been speared in the back.
>>82474982
Maybe Claremont has a Ryona fetish too?
>>82473971
>Warlock without Cypher
How ? and how will they animate him ?
also link ?
>>82472659
Nothing today besides X-Men. I've been falling more and more out of modern comics. Would cancel my subscription but I want the discount for other comics. Reading these older issues just remind me how fucking weird comics are being written today. Most characters just feel... bland. And they approach everything with no emotional stakes or by going "haha wow isn't this weird and wacky for normal people" totally ignoring the fact this is normal for them.
Speaking of which, I need to pick up Black Panther #1. I heard The Ultimates was good too
>>82475305
I'm pretty burned out of Big two stuff but I still enjoy indies.
>>82475085
https://www.instagram.com/joshboonemovies/?hl=en
Warlock might show up in a teaser or something
>>82475345
Same, but I get trades of them now. Even then, a lot of indies are just meh. The Autumnlands has been great, as is Deadly Class. Ever read Heathen? It's self-published book about lesbian vikings.
>>82475439
I'm sadly very unread on self published stuff, there's Copra and that's about it.
>>82474516
Nah. That was the cool thing about Marvel in the 70's and 80's. Characters could easily go from book to another. Now everything is much more self-contained. Annoyingly so.
>>82475500
it's the fucking opposite. you have every character appearing everywhere.
That's all for today, tomorrow we tackle Dazzler's solo series! Until then!
sweet sweet muggas
>>82473922
>>82473943
>>82473966
God, this is great. They just don't write them like this anymore.
>>82476840
and they never will
make way for homo superior
>>82472747
Okay, so they killed the X-Men and pretty much every other mutant...but why the Fantastic Four?
>>82480202
Also Spider-Man. And honestly, that makes much more sense than "We hate and fear mutants because of their powers...but we're totally cool with everyone else with superpowers!"
>>82480202
Because, memeing aside, the other superheroes wouldn't stand aside while all the mutants get slaughtered. Chances are the F4 weren't the only superheroes who got killed.
>>82474214
She's aGuardian of the Galaxy
>>82473994
that last sentence
>Sweep her home
was a late addition that I assume Byrne got mad about.
I forgot how little Rachel is in this.
>>82476996
;_;
>>82474246
I think Wolverine snapping at Nightcrawler was forced in by Shooter bc he felt Wolverine had lost some of his rep as the rough guy
>>82474479
>Singer
That POS better not be tied to this project.
>Dani needs to be a fullblooded native
Top kek, bruv. She'll be Latina/Asian and passed off as Native.
>>82475044
can you even be a great writer with out subtlety inserting your fetishes?
>>82484676
In that case hire a native from latino america and make her past as Cheyenne
>>82480202
Franklin's a mutant
>>82484676
well, many latinas have plenty of native/amerindian blood. is salvador, guatemala, that area, the people are very native, and millions of full blooded ones.
i suck cocks
>>82473971
>No Karma
Poor Shan.
>>82472818
I would have been far more surprised if Songbird was legit working for SHIELD.
>>82473121
Wasn't Franklin known to have the potential to be a god-like reality warper by this time?
>>82473420
Somebody should have storytimed this in 2013, it would've been hilarious.
>>82480202
>>82480972
>>82481059
(This fucking meme...)
If you had just played it out in your head these questions would have obvious answers. It starts with the mutants, because they're not like other superpowered people: they were never human to begin with.
That's the big mysterious excuse. There's a line drawn between "us" and "them". That's all it's ever took.
That's why some scientist who zaps himself with radiation or the really really smart guy with the robot suit aren't on this list, they are all examples of how "us" can be great and powerful and better than, unlike any example of a "them" who are a varying degree of threat by default.
It makes a perfect kind of sense, this bigotry, and that's why it's something that you can program into the logic circuits of a Sentinel.
"Destroy all mutant threats to humans." The obvious logical solution to that problem is a final one. And once the logic says that existing superheroes will give birth to mutants then the sterilizations begin. And some humans will act against "their own best interest" and so freedoms need to be curtailed. etc. etc.
>>82491837
It's probably for the best.
>>82492174
A: We don't know how much or little his mutant powers have been practiced in the Days-of' reality. At the time this was written I think Reed was still using superscience to suppress those powers.
B: The Sentinels have power dampener technology that allows them to negate the abilities they have observed. With enough unyielding robotic tries even a mutant as powerful as Franklin will eventually face a Sentinel that has adapted to every one of his abilities.
>>82474780
What is that Larry Niven quote about the power of a drive being equal to its effectiveness as a weapon?
>>82492518
Except on this page >>82473336 the Avengers and Fantastic Four are also mentioned as possibly being threats to ordinary people at a hearing about mutants.
>>82493540
-Mentioned to justify the legislation to identify and catalog mutants.
Dr. DOOM isn't going to be identified as a mutant, that example has nothing to do with an actual justification, some mutant is going to be made to answer for Dr. DOOM's crimes here, because that mutant is the easy target.
If he wanted to do something about Dr. DOOM he should propose legislation to declare war upon Latveria.
But that's not an easy sell. So the scapegoats are targeted instead.
>>82474047
George Sears is behind the new wave of Sentinels?
