It's not misinterpreted and it's supposed to be uncomfortable. That was the point. Greg and Amy hung out a lot, Rose died, Greg stopped hanging out with her as much in his mourning, Amy had a childs mindset of caring about her own wants, could shape shift, and things happened.
I think it's one of the most powerful scenes in the show because of the implications. It's some next level mental abuse done by a person (gem) who didn't realize how much power she had at the time.
