Barry isn't dead.
He has become Speed Force incarnate. He has transcended mortal bonds entirely and become one with it.
Then he hit Wally and infused him with Speedforce too. Barry will return to normal, Wally will become Flash 2 and go to Earth 2 after Zoom is defeated with E2 Wells and his daughter while Barry stays on E1 so both worlds can have a Flash and the show can still satisfy the 'Wally is the second Flash' canon from the comics in it's own way (because a TV show can't afford to replace it's main character because people who have become invested in that character stop caring once that happens, it can't work like in the comic books where you can just replace them).
We'll probably get to see Barry and Wally fighting Zoom together for a double Flash team up.

Look, Grant Gustin isn't that bad. No, he's not a perfect Flash, but he takes direction and does what he's told to do and what he needs to do. The things he can't do naturally he fakes fairly convincingly. He may not be perfectly cast, but he is a good actor.
Now Iris, THAT is a bad actress. Totally flat, usually just reading the lines with a very constant tone. She has zero chemistry with Grant whatsoever and is either unwilling or unable to fake it which completely destroys the emotional beats of the Barry/Iris subplot. She looks and talks to him like he's a nerd in high school that she takes pity on. This is highlighted by how she was actually rather bright and engaged in scenes where she and Eddie were together, most likely because the actress actually finds the actor who plays Eddie attractive and so does not have to fake her reactions.
Looking at the show from the perspective of "which characters keep people coming back," Barry is fairly low on that list. Cavanagh is the show's main draw and if he's ever gone for a full season the show is done for. Valdez and Panabaker and Martin (Cisco, Caitlin, Joe) are the cast members just under Cavanagh in terms of ratings importance. Remove them and you've got no viewers.

Honestly this season is great and I feel like co is just cherrypicking the flaws out because of how shitty/mediocre arrow and lot are. The season is great, Zoom is pretty much a slade tier antagonist (complete with slade's waifu issues) and the showrunners are actually doing a great job not overcrowding the team or straying far from the comics. I like Zoom. He is genuinely intimidating and his yandere antics are surprisingly amusing while still selling him as legitimately crazy.
Rather than Zoom, my main problem with the season is likely the complete and utter fuckup of Flash giving up his powers to Zoom.
That said, I have enjoyed this quest to regain his powers, and if I just ignore/overlook exactly how he lost them in the first place and pretend he lost them in a slightly more sensible manner then everything are still aces. So I can't say I have all that many troubles with the season.
