I was big into Marvel as a kid because my dad was a pretty big fan of comics. I loved watching Spiderman and X-Men, and I remember one summer my brother and I had to go stay with my aunt and uncle while my parents went on a second honeymoon after renewing their vows.
My uncle is a great guy, and I stayed with him several times before but he since married a horrible woman who was more of a "media corrupts youths" than religious nut. There was a local pizza place where they lived that was awesome (served awesome food, alcohol, and had an arcade). My brother and I noticed they got an old Avengers in Galactic Storm cabinet, and when my aunt caught wind of us playing they thought we were going to try beating someone up. So we were mostly forbidden from TV the whole summer, which wasn't bad because I read a fair amount other than comics and their neighborhood had a nice-ass country club with a pool and playground. I remember we use to "steal" satellite subscriptions, back in the day they had these big cards inserted into the machine. My dad was a computer engineer, so he would hack it. It felt like it was trying too hard to be edgy without actually really being that edgy. Fred, that nacho-cheese guy sucked and he wasn't funny, billy wasn't funny, Grim was just a butt-monkey and Mandy had no real personality besides being afoil to everyone else's shennagigans.
I think it's really over-rated here on /co/ as being one the last great shows on CN before My gym partner and shit started to air.
My parents were very religious but they still let me watch anything in the appropriate age range, and I just never asked for anything even PG13 until I was actually 13 so I don't know what they would have said about that.
They did force me to go to church early sometimes and I'd miss like the second half of the Pokemon episodes, but that was more of a timing thing than a content one.

After rewatching the first Shrek, Im actually shocked how it was never under any real controversy just because of all the language and adult humor. Antz was kinda understandable because that was intentionally an adult animated film, but Shrek was actually pretty popular with kids.

Dad initially shut the TV off when the Beetlejuice cartoon was going to start, but he looked into it and changed his mind.I only watched that one episode.There was also some show I watched 3 seconds of before my parents shut it down for being too violent (I was pretty damn young, to be fair). My dad was originally an accountant, but suddenly claimed he was called by god to be a pastor which fucking devastated a good amount of my remaining childhood.
