In regards to Bottom's butte, I guess it's the dialogue that gets to me the most. It reminds me so much of how the folks in theater and drama classes used to talk. The sort of not-quite-pretentious-but-damn-it-your-getting-there sort of language.

But neither succeed. They're meant to be like 20 something slacker people but they come off feeling like kindergardeners in both pilots (except the literal Eileen clone) and the humor stylings literally feel the same. Neither do this premise in a way that I feel is distinct from each other. And that's bad considering how many of these shows have that same premise but can actually execute it in a way that's unique and memorable.
Not to mention the butt ugly soft thin lined pastel art style is not helping in terms of just eye candy factor.

I'm generally not a fan of how these people write their characters and settings, but I could stomach it far better if it didn't have the exact same wrapper every fucking time.
It's not like it's hard or risky to do, either. Plenty of prior cartoons have proven you can use aliens/robots/weird fantasy shit beyond the Tolkien scope for your characters and settings not just passably, but even to such great effect that you get massive merch-buying autistic fanbases that last decades after the show stops airing.
It's just as safe as going the furfaggot route economically, if not way safer since xenophiliac heretics, clang-clang techpriests and all-around /tg/ nerds are all completely-unknown to soccer moms and other controversy-sensors, while furries are walking atom bombs of overwhelming autism and child-scarring depravity guaranteed to fuck your profits up if they catch wind of your work.

12 Forever was the only one of these pilots to both make a world and have a purpose, being a kind of chalk-zone but with more themes of growing up.
That's the difference among the CN shows currently running, they either have a good reason to exist or they're "friends hanging out then shenanigans".
PPG, Clarence, TTGo! fall into the latter, but at least Clarence does it in a grounded world while TTGo! revels in it's DC fuckery.
This kinda leaves the new PPG and these pilot attempts trying to fill a spot that doesn't need to be filled.

I liked the slapstick at the start some of the best I have seen in a while
The main character is a little shit though perhaps largely because she's really a traigic tale it's fine to play things for laughs but untill the brother showing her what she did to the town it seemed like they weren't self aware enough to pull it off.
I loved the way they did the exposition and that she's not just crazy she's a fucking idiot.
Peanut seemed like a good straight man until that I know scene it went against the personality the character had so far and more importantly just dident fit.
Overall though I think the protagonist really let's this one down.

I think Apple and onion has a huge amount of potentional as long as it sticks to that theme of finding the right balence between maturity and joyfullness /co/ is right there alongside /toy/ /tg/ and /mlp/ in understanding that maturity does not have to mean only engaging in grown up activity's and I think it's high time that theme was properly explored
For the episode itself my only complaints are that the bit with copying the exact words of people and the copying the popcorn pops made the characters seem a bit to retarded the other copying shots were spot on.
I dident like the speech French fry gave it gives me fear that there going to go to far towards the childish side of the aforementioned balence. But the stuff after that mostly redemed it it seemed a little far fetched that just looking at the devastation was what caused them to start realising there actions have consequences but I can deal with that.
Its a concept that will work as a 1 season series though nothing more.

Because the problem is in the west the only way an action show survives is if it sells enough toys. The GL series was cancelled (despite the positive feedback) because stores still had GL toys left over from the shit movie and thought no one would want anymore. They weren't going to sell them so CN seeing they wouldn't be raking in a profit with the GL animated series they pulled the plug.
Same thing with Young Justice, they weren't happy when they found out most of the fanbase was young girls. Why? Because young girls wouldn't buy action figures.

A prime example of why animators should animate, and writers should write. When animators get free reign over their stuff, you get nonsensical, unoriginal, juvenile stuff like this. It could have been forgiven if it was fun, but it's not. It's like it has a vague idea of what "fun" is supposed to look like, so they cram all of that in instead of interesting characters or plot.

A lot like so many other shows on the air right now, and while it doesn't add anything new to the formula, it doesn't really subtract from it either. Main characters are offbeat enough to be intriguing, but latter half became too reliant on "awkward situation" humor.
Would not greenlight either of these to series.

Shit, haven't gotten a lot of sleep. I meant free reign over series; I know these are just pilots, but they're meant to be the starting point of a series. I love a lot of animated shorts; some animators can do a lot with that. For some reason, when it goes to longer works like features and television shows, the "animator-writer" approach more often than not fails.

With just a few lines of dialogue you could easily interperate Peanut as an incompetent psychological caretaker trying to help her cope. When she talks to her it almost seems like she has to think about what she says and dumbs down her words so that she can understand.

Yeah, I think the premise of a show whose protagonist is literally brain damaged seems like it would be interesting. Especially if it's something low-key, like, if you interacted with her for just five minutes or so she'd seem fine, just a bit dumb, but then eventually your realize oh shit this woman it literally incapable of thinking through the consequences of her actions. Making it an otherwise healthy-seeming adult woman fits well for it, I think, since with a kid it'd just be way more tragic and with a guy it'd be too cliche, guys are always the mentally challenged ones in media these days. I wouldn't make it 100% tragedy, still keep a good lot of humor in there, just undercut it with these moments of "ha ha oh fuck i feel bad now". It could still be enjoyable and compelling if you did it right.
And some Anon on 4chan would do a greentext story about her getting herself knocked up or something.
