Danger Mouse is a spy. He does spy things. His companion, Penfold, is not a spy. He does nothing but talk and usually needs to be saved from danger. The show is full of dry, British wit, and the episodes are only about 10 minutes long. It's worth giving a try, at least.

I think it doesn't help that the episodes come out in one big continuous batch. On the one hand: it's cool to have a new episode everyday for about 2 weeks, but on th other: You get through them so quickly, that interest kinda dies down fairly quickly afterwards.

It's also more animated, the original series was from the "let's try to cut as many corners as we can" camp of animation.

Well, since Squawkencluck actually interacts with DM much more often than her previous series' namesake, she'd need more personality.
Making her out as one suffering from the foolishness he engages in whenever using her inventions makes her more of a female Q, and she is written with much of Desmond Llewellyn's caustic, sarcastic wit seen while suffering at the hands of 007's flippancy.

I believe this is an alternate universe; think Daniel Craig's Bond. Also, I kind of like DM as a more fallible character, as it lets Penfold be more of a mate than a sidekick. I'm glad the writers haven't tried to capture lightning in a bottle twice, and are doing their own thing.
That said, a few more nods to the original wouldn't go amiss - maybe the return of villains like Mac the Fork, or even Dr Augustus P. Crumhorn III, perhaps?
