COME ON AND SLAM

AND WELCOME TO THE JAM

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/space-jam-sequel-finds-director-834978

>Justin Lin, Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are ready to shoot some intergalactic hoops with LeBron James.

>The Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond helmer is co-writing with Dodge and Botello the Warner Bros.' sequel Space Jam 2. Lin is also eyeing to direct and produce via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, and sources say he will be thoroughly involved in the creative development in the project.

>Rumors of a follow-up to the live action/animated 1996 hit have been brewing for years, and picked up again when James and his company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. in July. The Cleveland Cavaliers NBA player, who recently appeared in Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck, will star in Space Jam 2. He's repped by WME.

>Sources say it's early on the in the process but that Lin and Dodge are working on the script.

Just like every athlete ever to star in movies or commercials? Seriously every single football, basketball, whatever the fuck star I've seen can't act and spits out wooden dialogue. And whenever an athlete stars in the movie some aspect of it is there specifically to feed their ego.

>Space Jam 2
I can fathom the concept of another Space Jam, shit I could fathom Space Jam direct to TV installments every few years as an event.

I cannot fathom the concept of a Space Jam sequel.

See the first would be I dunno, just some spin off annual sports event the LT do now with random aliens for fun. I'd watch it, usual Looney Tunes antics but sports themed.
The second however implies that the events of the first SJ have some form of unfinished business.
No.

Yes, yes all that predictable stuff from Nostalgia Critic about already being a soulless big budget commercial anyway, bla bla bla. Yeah I realize the obvious, thanks, that doesn't change the fact that sitting down and attempting to write in any possible way a continuation of a plot that had resolved in every possible way is fundamentally fucked.

The whole point about the end was that everyone but the greedy bad guy was a winner and they all lived happily ever after. Except not? How? The specific rules were whoever wins the game, wins forever.

Those were the stakes. There can't be anymore Monstars. YOU CAN'T FUCKING CALL A REMATCH!

What even was and is being played for then? ANOTHER GAME? Just shoot the goddamn antagonist on sight, there's no longer a win state!
>>
>>82415736
The original was saved by Charles and the other 4 who got their talent stolen. I hope they don't fuck shit up and try to make it the Lebron show.

But how can a team show up from nowhere and challenge the champions at their own game?

The victor currently holds full authority, the LT can just dismiss any challengers. There are no prior rules that insists another SJ must happen by default meta-commentary aside.

If the aliens made their own league and invite the Looney Tunes, they can just decline.

If the Looney Tunes host another SJ themselves they have no reason to make its rules or stakes detrimental to themselves or Earth.
Remember, when Mr. Swackhammer was setting up the first he called all the shots, it only turned against him because he lost.

Sure the Looney Tunes are buffoons, they screw up all the time, but this is a situation where going from champ to chump would be nonsense. And not in a funny way. I don't know what they're going to put on that script but it cannot basically say "Space Jam 1 was a win they'd eventually lose anyway" because every Space Jam would inherently be self defeating. The only winning move is not to play.

Shut Up and Jam Gaiden sits on a special throne as the weirdest, yet perfect game. Made on RPGMaker on a budget of a single oreo cookie, with almost every asset gleefully stolen, and resting on the stupidest fucking premise possible, it manages to somehow have a touching story, insane but smart writing, amazing sense of humor, great gameplay (including parodies of multiple genres) and the perfect length to explore everything it wants to without wearing out its welcome. It's like every aspect of this shitty Final Fantasy rip off has more heart and thought put into it than even Kojima usually spergs into Metal Gear games. It's a perfect storm, and everyone should play it.

What do you mean by "one joke"? Keanu didn't get great reviews, but I doubt it's not funny, it looks like a guilty pleasure movie.
I'm kind of upset that Keanu was made because I got an idea for a movie with the exact same premise a while back (though it was going to be an Action/Thriller, with bits of comedy), and then my former friend linked me the trailer.

The show went downhill when they started to make sketches longer, but they're genuinely funny guys.

>>82421473
Key and Peele are funny and the movie has a few really good jokes, but the whole thing is just filled with, "this is how middle class white people think all black people act!" based humor. It works sometimes but having it be the comedic glue of the movie just didn't work for me.

On the other hand, how long has it been since we had a movie of animated characters interacting with real people? I love that shit.
>>
>>82419070
Pretty much this.

It's just a cheap grab at the current late 80's/early-to-mid 90's nostalgia wave thanks to infantilized millennials who make 'Space Jam' a trending topic on Twitter every couple of months for some reason unknown to man.

Kids these days more than likely don't know who the Looney Tunes (are outside of maybe Bugs Bunny getting his ass beat in a couple Angry Video Game Nerd episodes), and there's currently no major sports figure who has the same charisma and media pull that MJ had back in his peak.

This movie is going to be a disaster, honestly.

Bill Murray had this sort of grossness to his existence that isn't easily replicated. You see him on screen and you should think "oh geeze"
Adam Sandler is probably close, but he's actually terrible on his own no matter ehat whereas Bill kinda uses his grossness and turns it into talent. He makes it worse. Plus Bill has a more outdated feel whereas Adam is jist outdated.

I grew up in the 90s but I honestly never heard of MJ before my parents took me to see space jam randomly one day. I still mainly know him for that movie and Hanes.
Kinda the same with this Lebron guy, never heard of him until I heard about a possible Space Jam 2. Other than "some basketball player" I still have no idea who he is.

I feel like they don't actually need to top Robin Williams. Jumanji seemed so neat to me and the board game irl was kind of cool.
Another Jumanji adventure could be cool if they do it right, though that'd be hard for a number of reasons. The antagonist would have to be reused, or they have none, or they'd have to make another antagonist (one that isn't shit (not that the one in 1 was shit)). They'd have to think ofnew jungle threats that don't overlap too much with the old ones, and assuming they use any old ones, they'd have to think of new ways for it to be a problem. Plus Zuthura was already sort of a Jumanji 2 even down to being lost in time shenanigans, so they'd have to hope that both of those movies isn't enough to disinterest anyone from the new one. Other than that they'd have to make it actually be a good movie in the first place. It's obviously a shitty hope, but I want it to work out.

Somewhere in this world, most likely in Ohio, there is an autistic man.

This Autistic man has been watching Space Jam on repeat every single day since it came out on VHS in the 90's. First he received it as a gift from his mother who at the time was just turning 40 and wanted the best for her son with his disability. She soon regretted the decision, as she would have to hear the movie being played over and over again while this autistic child grew up playing with Rubix cubes and cars.

In the Mid 2000's the VHS had decayed to the point where the film finally snapped. Leaving the Autstic man to fend for himself. His mother now in her 50's felt sorry for him and purchased the DVD version giving it to her son.

Fast forward to now. The mother is in her 60's almost 70 and is living in a run down house with her son living in the basement. Every day he watches space jam still. And much to his surprise he sees that Space jam 2 is now on it's way. He is happy to see this and runs to tell his mother, who upon hearing the news has a heart attack and dies.

This lonely autistic man will now go to the theater and watch the movie that killed his mother... And eventually he will realize that it was exactly what he wanted, but he will continue to watch the first one until the end of time because his mom isn't there to buy him the second DVD.

So ends the story of Space Jam...

Guy who wrote the post you responded to here.

You know, when I was a child I used to know this guy who was 23 with down syndrome that would do shit like I described in my previous post. Only his movie was Mrs Doubtfire and it only lasted like that a couple of months.

Being a young child at the time I used to think of all the crazy shit people probably do on repeat every single day for years, and years, and the ones who were watching the same movie every single day for years.

Honestly, at the time it scared the living shit out of me. Now.. Now that I know it's not just in my head... I sometimes lose sleep at night...

It's truly terrifying when you think about it. I mean life is pointless, but imagine living one of those existences....

Take solace in the fact that even if you did do something like become the next Newton, it doesn't matter because the heat death of the universe will ensure your contributions are forgotten.

Also, most people are pricks, so don't bother helping them. You need to develop an eye to tell the good ones from the bad.
Protip: There are almost no good ones...

Back in 1994 MJ retired from basketball for reasons (depending on who you believe he was super sad about his dad's death, or he was banned by the NBA for gambling).
He played minor league baseball for a year and a half because he always loved baseball (which is shown in Space Jam btw) and as an old man he plays golf because he's still extremely competitive and that's a sport where you don't need to be as spry.
Also glf is (was) an extremely common hobby among active NBA players, probably because of the low risk of injury.

Nah, it's fine. I was raped as a child and I don't really care how people use the word rape. It's just a fucking word you know, it's not that big of a deal so don't speak for me or people like me. If I get offended I can speak for myself and say that.

I mean I see you're point but that's kind of like when people get "permission" from their blacks friends to say the N word. One in a group doesn't determine the group decision,
>>
>>82434798
No, it's more like checking to see if your black friend is offended when someone says the N word before getting offended on their behalf.

It's kind of rude to act on the behalf of others without even checking to see if they would want you to. In this case no one was offended other than the anon who decided to be offended on behalf of people who he did not know and had never met.
I was just stating that I would rather he not do that. If someone who had been raped felt offended they can say so themselves.
>>
>>82434884
I was also raped during childhood. As far as I am concerned I think it is wrong to stop someone from using a word, period, end of story.

Just because I was raped as a child doesn't give me any more intelligence on the subject matter of if you should use a word or not.

I will say you are responsible for your own actions. I.E. Probably not the run up to a group of black people and start calling them niggers, also probably not a good idea to keep bringing up rape around a friend that asked you not to unless you don't want to be friends with them anymore, which is their own personal agency and yours.

That said I don't think you should be met with violence or hostility for using a word, anyone who disagrees with this statement can fuck off as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, I kinda agree, Robin isn't that quintessential to it. And I could see a new Jumanji movie work just because we've advanced so much in CGI that you could go super crazy with the shit the game pulls. The thought of Dwayne headlining is the only thing that feels weird.

The antagonist in SJ2 needs to be Shadow Jordan. Like, there could be some dude who looks like he's in charge, he gets dunked on and has to leave forever due to shameful display, but it turns out the hinted at cameo of Michael Jordan was him being the big bad.
