>I think that at the moment kids are looking for something a bit more relatable, but that’s going to change soon enough. I think it just happened to be that kids had had enough of funny animal cartoons, or snarky potty humour shows, especially on Nickelodeon, and hopefully they are ready for a human-based show that has a lot more heart than you would expect.
Do you think he's right, /co/?
>>
I watched all four preview episodes and loved them.
>>

>snarky potty humour
We had an entire episode of that, though.
>>
>>82343871
It was subversive though because it revealed Lynn is the actual poop machine.
>>
It's all up in the air, really.

In a scenario where 11+ characters of varying personalities and stereotypes are forced to interact with one another on a daily basis, in can be too much of a clusterfuck if its too much in every episode.

Which is why it feels like it would be better to have episodes that omit some characters entirely giving focus and development to a few at a time.
>>
>kids had had enough of...potty humour

The baby character's constantly shitting and the first episode released had the protagonist farting a few times.

Come the fuck on, guy.

also
>funny animal cartoons

Wasn't his original plan for the characters to be rabbits?

>The reason why I like Nickelodeon is that out of the big three - Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon - and I don’t want to make it look like the other two studios are bad because they are amazing places to work, but as far as my sensibilities and the type of cartoons that I want to make, I always felt like Nickelodeon was the perfect combination of Disney and Cartoon Network, where you got these grounded, relatable characters that can have whacky wild fun if you want them to and it still works
>I did try and sells shows at Cartoon Network and I did try and sell shows at Disney. I had run other people’s shows and executive produced other people’s shows before, but it’s quite possible that at some point I kind of resigned myself to well, maybe I’m not creator material. Maybe I don’t have a show in me to sell and maybe the rest of my career is going to be working on other people’s things and helping them do the one thing that I wasn’t able to do. And I was ok with that, that’s not a bad career at all, working in animation is an amazing job no matter what part of it you are working in.
>>
>>82343580
>ready for a human-based show that has a lot more heart than you would expect.

Oh please, every cartoon now have that same fucking pitch. "we're trying to make characters more human! We want them to be relatable!"

like we need another slice of life cartoon.
>>
>I would say about 90% of this crew are people I’ve never worked with before, and maybe half of those people are people who are pretty much straight out of school or very early in their careers.

>On one hand you have that uncertainty of what their abilities are because they don’t have as much experience, but on the other hand, you have these people who are so ready to learn and so ready to listen that you get a certain amount of ...resect seems like such the absolute wrong word there but I’m at a loss for words, but there’s a respect level that happens within that where we can ask things of each other that I don’t think you can ask of people that you have been working with for many many years.
>>
>>82343580
Loud House would definitely fill the void for a more down-to-Earth cartoon.

No overarching plot or enduring drama. Just a kid trying to survive in a big family.

The ideal situation is to have higher-ups who recognize the importance of quality, but do not consider themselves to be experts in animation. Disney isn't particularly more uptight, but they have very clear ideas about the right way of doing things. That guarantees Disney level quality, but also snuffs out personality and any chance of being groundbreaking.

There is a lot of toilet humor, but it's not especially snarky.
As much as I disliked the poop jokes in "Sleuth or Consequences," that episode was built on the idea that the house is too crowded for anyone to have much privacy, even for something as intimate and embarrassing as bathroom use.

There would be times when CN or Disney would be my favourite channel, but there was never a time Nick was in last place for me. They have more or less always been a nice middle ground for everything.

Though they do need less grossout humour

Agreed.

Somehow the braces don't make it annoying.
>>
>>82352408
of course not.
>>
Why Loud girls do you think are bullied, ostracized and despised by their peers?

I think everyone hates Luan.
>>
>>82352975

Everyone loves Luan. She has an act, she's probably really popular.
>>
>>82352991
I always thought her act is in the future, dream of getting gud and earning her popularity. I don't think anyone ever laughed at her current jokes.
>>
What we need is more Spongebob, obviously
>>
Well, kids probably are looking for something different, especially if they're watching Nick. What I don't get about Loud House though is how everything I've seen from it so far is completely doable in live-action, and if you can do something in live action, you should. Maybe he thinks that kids wouldn't watch it if it were live-action?
>>
Its a cycle. Going from surreal humor, to slice of life and then into adventure with some shows that bridge the gaps in between.

It's always been a cycle.
>>
>>82353079
Doable? Maybe. Having to coordiate eleven+ minors on a set? Not very practical.
>>
>>82344062
There's having a character be based around party humor, and then there's having a whole episode's plot revolving around something gross and weird, like Sanjay and Craig having an episode about Sanjay being pregnant with a fart baby.
>>
>>82353079
Probably because he's more experienced in animation and not directing live actors?
>>
>>82343897
this

they made the baby not even the best at pooping to setup that lincoln lily episode
>>
>>82352975
Lucy probably ostracizes herself. Lisa has no peers. And I would think that none of the girls are really bullied.
>>
>>82352991
Or she's the kid who tries to be funny but everyone thinks is annoying.

Leni seems to be the one most people think would be vulnerable. She has the looks to be popular, but not the wit to defend herself against jealous or competitive peers.
>>
>>82343973
Savino said in an interview that the first few episodes are going to be ensemble episodes to get the feel for the characters but later on in the season there is going to be episodes that focus on other members of the family such as an episode where Lincoln needs to help Leni earn her drivers license which is going to be difficult since she gets dizzy and carsick.
>>
>>82353381
If they did get bullied they'd gang p as a family and beat them down. I think they already used that joke though.

Maybe Luna is a bully. She's the best and an beat up anybody.
>>
>>82351082
Potty humour I'd give you, but it certainly has heart and charm.

>>82353079
Live action wouldnt give you things likc comic book aesthetics though. And allows for a lot more angles and expressions.

Also, that number of main characters might be trouble in live action. In this, multiple characters are voiced by singular people.

Also, stuff like Lisa's eventual inventions and the anime clip arent live action friendly

The painful truth is that kids are probably tired of episodic shows that go nowhere and want story-driven cartoons.

>Well thank you. It’s funny that when an art director or background designer approaches a new show or approaches a design of a show, they usually want to do something new or something you’ve never seen before and make these amazing backgrounds, but I wanted the exact opposite. I wanted you to feel like you have seen it all before and that it felt really familiar. The funny thing is that the more familiar I tried to make it, the more people said that it was such a fresh and new look and I was like, “No, no, no, that’s not what I want, I want old and familiar".

>>
>>82357593
Shows with stories are harder for reruns because they will have to show it in order for it to make sense. If it is a comedy series it doesnt matter which episode you show since each episode is contained. It's easier to make comedy shows for this reason plus they are relatively cheap compared to shows with an overarching plot.

The fuck nigga? You could do something like Arthur or Hey Arnold in live action too, yet no-one makes that criticism of those shows. Kids enjoy cartoons generally more than live action shows, I think a lot of them find cartoon characters more likeable than real people. I know I did, the kids in live action shows just always pissed me off for some reason.

>>82345150
I really like what I've seen because it does seem much more down to earth. It makes me feel quite nostalgic for childhood. It's a show about kids doing kid things and dealing with their family - It isn't trying to be "deep" or dramatic or push agendas and I think that's all positive.
>>

It is theoretically possible for comedies having stories and overarching plot.

The problem is, no one dares to make the combination, because executed wrong and comedy takes tension away from a dramatic situation.

Like a sympathetic character just got mortally wounded, everyone is in shock, until he mutters "not... again", implying he get's better.

As much as it's popular to hate, Fairly Oddparents has been pretty fantastic at being a comedy with advancing plot. bar one or two episodes, the show's lore is generally remembered, expanded upon and changes over time. Like Crocker, Darl Laser and Foop forming a team and the team returning later, or one time characters coming more regularly.

Like Shallowgrave coming in Season 5 and then coming back all the way in Season 9.

Wander Over Yonder also had a good plan with episodic episodes following a theme based on where the lore is currently at.

Because we don't have beef with /sug/. Members of /sug/ came saying not to associate them with the faggots spamming our thread. Everyone in /trash/ wants to be left alone and forget about it. Even then every once in a while some autists make posts about how we should to war with /sug/ even though it's unnecessary and we tell them to fuck off. What about Lincoln?
>>
>>82374557
The family dynamic certainly isn't only defined as boy vs. girls. It makes sense that Lincoln would be portrayed as the linchpin of the three middle kids.

He's already shown big-brother tendencies toward Lucy. Since Lynn was the first of the older sisters to vacate the grown-up table, it shows he has influence with her as well.

I think we may see this as another way to have the kids relate to each other, but not very often. It's just too easy (and fun) to write stories with Lincoln vs. the Estrogen Brigade.

>>
>>82383264

Some time that's how siblings are, me being a middle child my self had a sister close to my age, she was supper aggressive in public called me names hit me all the time all that shit, but alone she was supper clingy and sweet with me. Kinda confused me at time, but what ever she was cute and that all about it for me. They siblings close to their ages either drift away or get closer. I'd like to see an episode like that between Lincoln and Lynn.
>>
>>82383413
I have the opposite. Sister 2 years younger, super nice and meek in public, but a total bitch at home. I usually end up doing her chores since it's easier than getting her to do them.
As a result, it's the brother 4 years younger that I'm closer to. There's any number of reasons why siblings closer in age aren't closer... mentally. Especially in a large family.
>>
>>82383497
I think when they are close age the siblings are rivals, when the age gap is bigger it is more like a mild version of parenting (care giver and role model)
>>
>>82383639
I wouldn't say rivals, but you definitely get tired of someone quickly when you live with them. It's a bit weird how you can be joking and talking about something you both like, then 10 minutes later argue heatedly about something, ending in someone storming off, then next time you see each other it's back to joking around.
So from my experience, it's more like you have a shorter fuse around them, but you're still closer than when the age gap spreads.

The parenting thing is pretty spot on though. I'd say the only thing that separates parents and myself in my smaller sibling's minds is that I'm lower on the chain of command. They give me drawings, ask me for permission for stuff, etc.
>>
>>82378101
The hell? Why was this deleted?

>I think it just happened to be that kids had had enough of funny animal cartoons,

Did Zootopia's runaway success slip under this guy's radar, or....?
>>
>>82383413
>>82383497

I think that having the large group dynamic, with no two kids spread too far apart in age, helps prevent any one kid from going way too far in personality. Yes, there will be the need for some to show their differences from the pack, but most big families are more similar than different.

That said, I still think that there will be gravitation to form subgroups within the Loud siblings based on age (older, middle, younger), personality type (extrovert and introvert), and interests (analytical, artistic, physical) that will fluctuate in influence as time goes on.

As for differences in behavior in public vs. private, they are kids after all. They're still figuring out how to relate to the world and each other and most well-adjusted people find a happy medium place to park their psyche in adulthood (the operative words being "well-adjusted").

If you mean them having a rivalry like Dipper and Robbie Gravity Falls, I doubt that will happen. Lincoln's love interest is a loli, and Bobby is already dating Luan.

From what little we've seen of him (that short character bio and his cameo in that flash game) he doesn't seem like a tryhard like Robbie or Lars from Steven Universe.

If they interact in the future, Bobby and Lincoln will probably be on friendly terms, unless he's like that one guy from Clarence who keeps getting injured due to the main character's shenanigans.

I'm guessing probably a little of the first two.

When you think of "everyjob" characters (Joshua from Clarence, Filbert from Rocko's Modern Life, Larry from Gumball) they tend to suffer a lot due to the main character's troublemaking.

But he seems pretty laid back when interacting with Lori. As bossy and bitchy as Lori can be to her siblings, she seems a lot less so with her bf.
