To be fair, any attempt to render Johnny in realistic style is doomed from the start. He doesn't always have a mouth. He's six heads tall, one of those heads is hair and the other one is his entire body below the belt line. His shoes are the size of playing cards. It looks like he's been skipping leg day since he was five years old. To describe his proportions as ape-like is an insult to our glorious simian heritage. 90% of his movements are smear-frames, accompanied by whipcrack sound effects, or both. Of course, it works because he comes from a universe where everybody's drawn like a 1960s advertising mascot, but drop him into a world where people have anything like real-world proportions and he stands out like Reddy Kilowatt in an Alex Ross book.
