>JOSS WHEDON CAME OFF OF AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON FEELING LIKE A "MISERABLE FAILURE"

>Joss Whedon has said that he was "beaten down" by the process of making Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

>During an interview with Avengers star Mark Ruffalo at the Tribeca Film Festival (as reported by Variety), Whedon discussed his conflicting feelings on the film:

>"I am very proud of it [but] The things about it that are wrong frustrate me enormously, and I had probably more of those than I had on the other movies I made."

>Whedon ruled himself out of directing more films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Age of Ultron released, and his feelings about making the film seem to point as to why:

>“I was so beaten down by the process," Whedon explained. "Some of that was conflicting with Marvel, which is inevitable. A lot of it was about my own work, and I was also exhausted [...] I think that did a disservice to the movie and the studio and to myself."
>>
At least now he can spend more time with his feminist bestie.

Maybe you should have fucking followed through on Cap lifting Mjolnir, faggotron.

Welcome to almost exactly a year ago today, OP.

Invest in oil. Seriously. It just goes up all year. You wouldn't believe what we're paying now.

Why can Joss admit his shortcomings while Snyder can't?

awww poor baby

Francis Ford Coppola dealt with the jungle, a coked up dennis hopper and Marlon Brando filming Apocalypse Now. Then he went and worked with Marlon Brando AGAIN.

Werner Herzog dealt with even more shit and a psychotic Klaus Kinski trying to kill everyone.

This fucking manchild retard makes two superhero movies and considers retirement. What a wuss.

The Russos are on two Captain America movies and on to TWO Avengers movies and having a blast.

Fuck this prick.

Who knows. Considering the currents trends in media, I'd say Whedon's narrative style could fit in well this new world of comfiness and fangless action.

The issue is whether audiences will find his killing characters so frequently too mean-spirited.

Justice League will absolutely be filled with either a ton of Atlanteans or Parademons, Infinity War is harder to predict but I don't see how a cast thar large would not have goons to fight.

MCU cap is nowhere near worthy enough to lift Mjolnir. He solves literally every problem by punching it, and goes crazy when there's nothing to punch anymore. He's basically John Rambo at this point.
>>
>>82003587
His exact words were...
>"Their is more at stake here then our lives & the lives around us..."
>>82003617
He wasn't arguing just for the sake of Clark's privacy, he was arguing for the sake of the lives that would be lost if Clark was prevented from reaching his potential by being revealed too early, be was arguing for the lives of those that could be lost in the social upheavals that would come from the revelation of immensely powerful aliens living among us.
>>82003767
It was exactly the type of Superman reboot some of us where begging for.
>>
>>82004002
His argument throughout the movie is don't help people, if they find out about you they will hate you. That is a self-centered, selfish viewpoint. Its just saying I care more about your happiness and safety than about others. I'm not arguing he is necessarily wrong, it just is not at all a great good appeal, it is the opposite.
>>
>>82003889
It's not wrong to artistically switch a characters perspective in a alternate way in a alternate fucking reality to say what if this went differently, how would that change things?

didn't we know all of this a year ago?

Anyway, he should feel like a failure. It was his choice to introduce Ultron. It was his choice to bring in Vision, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

He did fuck all with any of them. They were all written horribly. What did he expect would happen with a bloated cast? Why did he think any of us would care about more hypnotized bullshit or Loki's staff?

Honestly the only thing he did that was distinctly Whedon that I actually liked was the farm stuff.

Lol It's not falling apart in anyway.
Even if your assessment of Pa Kents intent was accurate it would still not make it a bad film or even a bad characterization of him. It would simply be a perfectly valid elzwworlds of the character, which is exactly what it is.
>>82004570
Yes wanting Superman to be given the dignity of not being a waking deus ex machina equals hating the character, totally.
>>82004615
It's not a meme, some fans genuinely harshly want a Superman who can not Fail, who can not be challenged or face trials and uncertainty.
That is the definition of a Mary Sue.

Yes and eveything they dealt with (or a lot of it) was their own choice. They must have known how hard it is to make a movie in a genuine jungle and they knew how hard their actors can be to work with, they made choices. Meanwhile Whedons burn out could all be on stuff that was forced on him.

I care less about the fact of how it broke and the fact that it's broken.

>>
>>82005506
The only deus ex-ish thing Vision did was cutting off Ultron from the internet, the situation wasn't magically saved by his presence
And his character was introduced in the last act, because of how the story was framed there wasn't space for Vision's potential flaws, he was a supporting character in this. His birth scene and the final dialogue with Ultron gave us enough informations about him as a character to make his presence enjoyable

I agree that Wanda wasn't that fleshed out, that one scene they cut in Sokovia could've helped in that regard, but for most of the movie she was a villain with clear intentions, and when she became a supporting good guy her intentions wer clear too. Again, like Vision she just wasn't the focus

Same. The trailers weren't at all that promising, and Apocalypse didn't feel as threatening and imposing (but with a very strong and commanding voice) compared to the cartoon series 20 or so years ago. Whedon was the one who couldn't even decide on what kind of tone he wanted Age of Utron to be.
He was the one who wanted to focus so much on the farm scene so he can make it seem like Hawkeye was going to die then switch to Quicksilver to feel clever(also to have Black Widow make unfunny """feminist""" jokes about the baby being male. A concept that failed since the Hulk/Widow romance and Widow being a damsel in distress pissed feminists off).
He was the one who didn't want to bring back Quicksilver (despite setting it up) because of his arogent need to have characters die in order for the story to feel important.

Whedon is a douche and I'm glad he's out of the MCU.

I got the impression the while film that Widow X Banner was completely fake, as in Widow was assigned to be The Hulk's handler, the best way to control a rage monster is to make it fall in love with you, maybe it's because I remember that Widow is a spy, but I didn't believe a word of what she was saying to Banner anytime their relationship was getting unneeded screen time.

I find that ship to be a pretty awful and forced and lacking any real substance beyond the lie that Natasha has built up in order to control the most destructive being on the planet.

>>82006999
>And the problem is...?
The lack of talking lended itself to batman and superman acting like frat boy morons when theyre both supposed to be smart. The conflict between them actually required they be idiots who just yelled threats at each other.

The vague ending wasn't vague, its obvious superman is alive and the death was meaningless beyond an incredibly forced attempt at giving Batman a character arc.

Also he did something just as lame as being frozen in ice. Arguably lamer.
>>
>>82002780
Whedon is self-reflective. Self-reflecotve practice is a requirement in many professions and it shows he is a professional man. He may have made mistakes in the last movie, but this displays a willingness to learn, move on and do better in the future.

You Snyderfags need to get your story straight. You can't simultaneously claim that his version of Superman is better because it's modern and realistic and more thought out and topical than any other version, and the classic superman is just too silly to work on the big screen, and then in the next breath write off characters acting stupid with "but it's a genre staple, y u mad"

It was entirely about character. Whether advancing the shit between steve and tony, hulk and natasha (take or leave that how you will), or just fleshing out hawkeye as an actual character. It actually presents them as people and it does serve to generate a sense of peril for Clints well being later on.
