Her series written by KSD was honestly terrible. It started out by erasing her memories so she could be written as Generic Flawless Hero, and even her prior personaltiy was less interesting than other Captain Marvel characters who held the mantel.
Couple this with Marvel was giving her a huge push despite who book selling pitifully and cancelling other better books it makes her an easy target for hate.
Of course some people on /co/ declared her RUINED FOREVER!!1 once they saw her new design with pants and hated her because damn sjws taking over muh comics and won't give her new title a chance even though this one is actually decent.

The original version of the bodysuit had a bunch of little things that threw it off and was kind of a let down after the stark simplicity of the bathing suit. If they had used this version from the start I don't think anywhere near as many people would have cared.

Brand is even more incompetent than Jess and to make it work writers would be forced to have Carol enable her idiocy even more than she already does with Jessica. At least she has history with Jessica so it's believable that Carol would, it would seem more out of character than the KSD run for Carol to get with Brand and let her idiocy continue.
