I know a Lot of people hate that they call him Shazam, but I have to ask. How much more accepting would you be if they called him "Captain Thunder"?
And I should note, that pretty much nothing will convince them to use the name "captain marvel" agian

As much as I like the name Captain Thunder I think I prefer them going with Shazam for current stuff like Curse and Captain Marvel for the golden-agey stuff like Thunder World. Let someone new have the name Captain Thunder instead of trying to have your big red cheese and eat it too.

I'm not a Captain Marvel nerd, but I'm pretty sure he has to say his name with "conviction" in order for it to change him in any way. So, saying "Shazam" regularly wouldn't do anything, but saying "I'm Shazam!" would change him.
