Why are so many comics from the late 90s to late 00s just a bunch of joyless grimdark shit?
>>81867638
The Sonic Comic is goodAfter Ian took over in 2005Also, because anime boom.
Because you just got that assumption from Linkara and TV Tropes.
>>81867638
All comics are joyless shit.
>>81867638
A weird sense of EDGE that people thought could be socially acceptable for a bit too long
>>81867638
Because they were made for boys. Straight ones.
Now they're made for girls and homosexuals.
Because 14 year old kids realize that they're allowed to have their own independent thoughts so they rebel against the status quo in the most mundane way possible. Authority figures say guns, drugs and swearing are bad? Well you're all in on them! Fuck you mom and dad I'm an adult! Did you guys ever realize like the RICH are holding us down with TECHNOLOGY man!? Wake up sheeple!!! It's not a generational thing.
>>81870421
To clarify that shit was made for dingus high school freshman and it still is.
>>81870421
>>81870936
You're also ignoring the fact that OP is one of the fucktards who thinks anything that isn't loaded with memes and takes itself the least bit seriously is "grimdark"
OP like Squirrelgirl and modern Marvel
>>81867663
Ian didn't make the Sonic comic "good". He made it readable for its demographic, instead of being embarrassing furry fanfiction as it was under the previous writer.
>>81871007
Nah, bro.
I think it's just good.
>>81871718
I don't get it. Is this picture supposed to prove that this comic is special in any way? What part of it?
>>81871718
Nah, bro.
I think it's kind of shit.
>>81872236
At least we won't get another embarrassing crossover now that megaman has ended, right?
>>81872236
Brofist/fistbump is just the current generations "hi 5"
There was a time, believe it or not, that "hi 5" was a young persons meme and considered stupid as well, yet something tells me you wouldn't think twice if they "hi 5"d
This shit reminds me of my idiot friend who gets supremely asshurt whenever somebody says "bro" and goes on a ten minute rant everytime about how slang is awful, yet he says "dude" at the end of every sentence
>>81872236
Your opinions are bad.
>>81872334
The first one was great.
It's not about Megaman being over, it's that Kaminski moved to DC and was put on Supes.
>>81872368
>the comic isn't stupid because my friend also happens to be an idiot
???
>>81872369
Cool dude. Your comic is bad.
>>81872156
It's hard to explain without you reading the comic.
There are a lot of feels there if you've read since Flynn starts. A lot more if you've been reading since the beginning.
Thicker Than Water is a god tier little arc.
>>81872427
Are you a Penders fan anon?
Why is a sonic comic better than most capeshit?
>>81872432
Contrary to your strawmanning and assumptions, I've actually read that arc. I fail to see how anyone supposed to have empathy for some stupid anthropomorphic rabbit and her relationship with her uncle from Penders issue whatever the fuck from 20 years ago.
>>81872494
Because someone actually thought about it. And cared for more than a second.
>>81872494
Why do furries have to have such inflated opinions of their glorified fanfiction?
I blame Watchmen, Daredevil and TDKR
>>81872553
>I can't enjoy anything but humans being humans. Now let me get back to this character with a 20 pack who can shoot eye lazers!
That seems like a you problem, anon.
Also
>from Penders issue
Penders just named him in a one off joke. This is his first appearance. He's even better in his second appearance. RIP
>>81872612
Pot, please.
>>81872705
>abloobloobloobloo
>implications
>strawman
Such is the nature of the average /co/ furry. Thanks for propagating the stereotype.
>>81872874
Saying "strawman" and "implications" aren't arguments, anon. They're the retarded babbling of an uncomfortable neckbeard.
>>81872979
But you were the neckbeard who was uncomfortable enough to feel the need to use a strawman
To defend..... a sonic the hedgehog comic
Wew
>>81873067
I don't think you understood the point of that post, anon.
But, enjoy your incoherent rage anyway.
>>81872979
>uses the "neckbeard" argument
>is a sonicfag
>>81873153
Did I hurt your fee fees too much?
That's okay, Just don't let your fursuit's tail get stuck in the door on your way out.
>>81873169
>wahh stop calling people names on 4chan!
We're all neckbeards here on /co/. Colorful language is a way of life.
If your argument sums up to
>furry
and
>lolsonic
That's fine, but it's not going to deter a whole bunch of people who don't give a shit and just want a good comic that's well-written and nails characterization and plot and can sometimes have some decent art (that's of characters that don't have to worry about the awful anatomy issues that are present in even the top tier comics)
All I know is, I'm not the one missing out.
>>81867638
the CCA was losing power rapidly late 80's onwards, giving writers a whole box of edgy tropes that had been off limits for years to play with, and the kids reading those comics grew up and wrote more comics like that
>>81873067
>>81873169
>(you)
Are you from 2009? Nobody gives a fuck if you like Sonic, especially on /co/ on 4chan
>>81867638
Things were pretty good in America during that time
There were lots of jobs, gas was and food were cheaper, and we weren't involved in so many conflicts overseas. People wanted to see edgy shit to break from their peaceful lives.
>>81873169
You're on the comics and cartoon board of a Vietnamese corn shucking forum and you're still trying to prove that you're superior to the rest of us?
>>81873835
>>81873476
It will never stop.
They can't enjoy anything unless their fictional characters are the right shape.
>>81874039
They want an all-american non-furry-fag shape, like pic related!
And the writing to go along with this beauty was top notch too! Definitely good for all ages, especially adults!
Not dumbed down furry garbage for a readership like sonic's "Demographic"
>>81874039
what issue is this from?
Sonic Universe, right?
>>81867638
I'm guessing you under 18 and never got to see the shitload of goth kids that existed in the 90s.
>>81874210
#23, the one with the best cover in the series of course.
#21 is where the arc starts, and Treasure Team Tango is probably the best pre-reboot SU arc.
>>81867638
It was a very mean-spirited era.
>>81867638
Sidenote, Shadow would be a significantly more interesting character if his constant edginess wasn't portrayed as a good thing. Him being "cool" is completely illogical. In reality, he should be a sullen, dweeby blowhard whose attempts to look badass only show that he's insecure. That could potentially lead to some character development, which the Sonic games continually lack, even when they're trying to focus on the story.
>>81875525
See >>81874039
But more than that. He's actually a lot better when he's portrayed and described by others as a sullen, dweeby blowhard, but shows that he's actually a good guy at heart with a sense of humor and other interests than being edgelord supreme.
Stuff like pic related.
Incidentally, being placed across from an insecure edgelord (that's obviously insecure and only playing at being edgy as a front) is actually really good as well. See: Eclipse.
This is why comicfags aren't just blowing smoke when they say that the comics are the best thing in the sonic fandom. The shit gets the characters spot on.
>>81872564
Whose that chick?
>>81875743
The comic version of Breezie
>>81875743
Breezie. Originally from AoSTH. Due to the reboot/legal issues, Flynn has been putting doing what he does best into overdrive, and pulling from all sorts of places for interesting characters to replace the holes that others filled in new and interesting ways. She's basically Mogul but less wordy/immortal and more ruthless capitalist.
I think things have been doing extremely well despite the lack of characters with backstory to work with. The fact that all the eggbosses shown so far have actual ideologies and react differently to the idea of freedom fighters is real interesting.
>>81875525
Sonic Adventure was all about character development, for everyone that wasn't Sonic at least. All the characters devolved into shittier forms of their base character with every game afterwards with Knuckles being hit the hardest.
>>81875900
>>81875933
So...how good are the sonic comics really?
I'm not a big fan of furry character designs for reasons unrelated to the furry hate on the internet but I grew up loving Sonic games but all the disappointing games has sort slowly drifted the franchise away from me so I'm not sure I could read the series on nostalgia appeal alone at this point.
>>81879126
Start from the reboot. Ignore World's Unite (for REASONS. But don't worry. The biggest REASON quit halfway through and they saved the comic by 06'ing the entire thing with a time-bullet) Literally read everything from the reboot on. It's all good. Take it all with a grain of salt. If you think "are they taking a shot at this?", they probably are. They're not afraid to take shots at SEGA.
If you want more, drop back further to Flynn's start at 160. If you don't know who a character or plot element is, don't worry. Flynn will get rid of that character or plot element or completely change them to be good. If you still don't understand, the wiki can fill in the blanks.
And if you STILL want more, read 1-50, then read as far as you can get before you hate yourself.
And if you have the biggest balls, read it all. It really gives you a unique perspective and it's a sort of gold star amongst comics fags that you actually waded through the dark ages.
Flynn is really good and nails the characters.
>>81879126
Also, the sparing original characters in the comic are all fucking top tier, too.
