I seem to recall an episode where they all parted ways in the future and were bitter about it (as with most episodes, everything was Wheeler's fault).
But besides Wheeler and Linka's relationship, I think Maa-ti would be the only one actively trying to be friends with the others (appropriate, having the power of Heart)... Quami and Gi always felt somewhat aloof to me.

The Cold War wasn't America VS Communism, it was actually a three way conflict between China, Russia and the US but America thought China and Russia were on the same side. Russians hated the Chinese on ideological grounds for perverting Marxism into Maoism but were obligated to support them somewhat due to the whole international Communist revolution thing, and somewhat on racial grounds. Chinese hated the Russians for being filthy Western imperialist dogs who exploited them not fifty years before, and for coming up with those retarded half-baked farming theories that resulted in enormous famines for China. And also somewhat on racial grounds. As early as Khrushchev they were already gearing up to backstab each other, and the next forty years did little to ease those tense relations.
So Gi and Linka would probably fucking hate each other, even considering the show took place in post-Cold War era.

The Soviets and Maoists started out as friends, but the Sino-Soviet split over doctrinal issues, but even despite that they still worked together on common issues (such as the Vietnam War or North Korea) and were still part of the wave of Socialist anti-colonial countries despite competing in places like the Indian Subcontinent (where China backed Pakistan and Russia backed India)

That was never the issue that caused the split. Rather it was Mao's belief he should be at the head of the international communist movement after the death of Stalin and instead of answering to Nikita Khurschev and of course Khrushchev's repudiation of Stalin, which lead to Mao fearing the same thing happening to him and creating the Cultural Revolution as a result to purge the Chinese Communist Party.

That was entirely due to Maoist and its repudiation of basic science or even general facts. The culmination of this mindset was the Cultural Revolution.
