What did Disney do wrong?

What did they do right?

In what direction do you believe a sequel should proceed, should there ever be one?
>>
They got Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas to do their old Bob and Doug routine.

Thus this is the best Disney movie in history, hoser.
>>
>>81846879

Holy shit I just realized.

Were Judy's next door neighbors in Zootopia a reference to this?
>>
>>81846849
There already was a sequel, wasn't there?
>>
>>81847070
yes, there's a chick bear on it
>>
>>81847114
Well, a human chick that is turned into a bear. It's a lot like the first one, actually, except it happens to a woman specifically so that Kinai can have a girlfriend without people getting to speculate about him marrying a human girl someone from his tribe or a regular bear and having interspecies sex.
>>
>>81847070

Just looked it up, direct-to-vhs/dvd.

That scares me a little.

How is it, /co/? Do we still get to hear the sexy voice of bear-ified Joaquin Phoenix?

there is a disturbing lack of bearposting in this thread

Holy shit I had no clue Rick Moranis was in this movie

>it's been 13 years since this movie came out
>kids who were born when this movie was released are old enough to be in high school now
>>
>>81847599
Know a guy in town who arranges gaming nights. One kid there is born 2000, saw my old snes games because i am middle of moving shit right right now. Kid goes "HOLY SHIT CARTRIDGES". Was pretty cool actually.
Reminder that in a few years from, CD's are considered retro.
>>
>>81847667

no please just stop

time

I don't want to get old

fuck
>>
I haven't seen the second movie but the premise is hilarious to me. Some guy loses his fiancee who decides she'd rather be a fucking bear instead. You know that fucked him up for life.
>>
>>81847692
Within a decade kids won't know what DVDs are
>>
>>81846849
It wasn't terrible, but not amazing either. Plot was way too safe.

I loved the art style though, especially how it somewhat changes once he becomes a bear. And who doesn't love the Bob and Doug Mooses? (Meese?)
>>
>What did Disney do wrong?
Censored the emotional climax with Phil Collins.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-seKkTsCeE

Was that really too intense for Disney?
>>
>>81847218
Eh, it's okay. It's not one of their worse direct to video sequels. It especially helps that the original isn't a well liked classic, so it's harder to shit on it by making a sequel.

If I remember correctly, it's about a chick that used to be childhood friends with Kinai, and she's about to get married. But the gods of her culture won't let her get married because she made friendship bracelets or some shit with Kinai once when they were kids, and the gods interpreted that as her getting married to him. So she needs to turn into a bear to find Kinai and talk to him and undo that shit. Cue bear shenanigans and annoying bear cub fucking shit up.
>>
>>81847866
So her fiancee gets cucked by a bear?
>>
>>81847811
Plural of moose is moose.
>>
>>81847811
>Plot was way too safe.

The premise was pretty goddamn dark if you think about it

They did really dumb down the writing and the critical scenes though.

Like >>81847839
>>
>>81847887
Yeah, i guess so. I can't remember if her fiance ever even appears on screen.

>>81847839

Damn.

I always thought it was awkward as fuck how they pasted that song over that entire scene.
>>
>>81847866

Is the animation shitty like a lot of other straight-to-vhs sequels?
>>
>>81847866

Eh, I don't get why a bear though

It's clear that everybody gets different totem animals or whatever but why is everybody turning into a bear
>>
>>81846962
Huh? Nope, they were antelope and no names were mentioned, as well as a distinct lack of Canadian accent, eh.
>>
>>81849332

My bad, I was thinking about the scene with the mountain goats, not the crazy Canadians

>SHUT UP
>NO YOU SHUT UP
etc
>>
>>81849224
She turned into a bear so that she could have sex with a guy that was already a bear.
>>
>>81849129
Not the shittiest but not theatrical release quality either.
>>
>>81847738
I'm actually looking forward to being able to buy DVDs by the truckload in bargain bins.
>>
>>81847114
They shoulda done that from the get-go. Female disney animals are just money-machines. Just get voice actresses that sound hot, and dudes will want to see the movie out of sheer curiosity.
>>
>>81847218
>its a little bother helps big brother turn his old injun crush into a bear so they can fuck direct-to-dvd movie
>>

Didn't work out so well for Princess and the Frog.

>Kodah, I did something terrible... I killed a bear
>No... I-I dont like this story
>Your mother's not coming back Kodah

What the fuck
>>
>>81849673
Well how did you think the conversation under Phil Collins's singing went?
>>
>>81847218
Actually didn't hate the sequel to this, the protagonist was more likable than kenai
>>
>>81846849
I love this movie, it's honestly one of my favorites. But I can see why people dislike it. It feels to me as though there's a drop in effort after Kenai becomes a bear. The first 20 minutes just seems way more immersive, for example the opening narration being dubbed over in Inuit was a nice touch, and Great Spirits and the Transformation song are amazing.

>>81847811
I wouldn't say that the plot was too safe. As far as I can tell, it's the only Disney movie to do a "character vs self" kind of narrative. Unfortunately, for the all of the time between Kenai meeting Koda and then confessing to killing his mother, we see little emotional turmoil from him, which makes the story feel kind of empty.

>>81849885
That said, watching Kenai get hunted by his own brother who couldn't even recognize him after looking into his eyes breaks my little heart every time and I instantly feel immense pity for him as a character. I really don't understand how so many people seem to find him unlikable.
>>
>>81849673

damn that's kinda fucked
>>
>>81850191
>That said, watching Kenai get hunted by his own brother who couldn't even recognize him after looking into his eyes breaks my little heart every time

This, also watching his brother kinda lose himself to self-destructive levels of blind rage after he was the hopeful one after the first brother's death hit kinda hard too

>>81847839
Fuck, this triggers me. In fact, most of the songs from this movie could have been in literally anything else. They really should have pushed the Inuit/Native American shit in more songs.
>>
>>81850328

The soundtrack was completely cringeworthy

painfully so

Got some good bits here and there but overall horrendous and killed the mood

but you're wrong anon

Loved it. Would watch it when I went to sleep pissed after a night out at uni fairly regularly.
