It doesn't have to be a straight adaptation, but the show depended on the previously established characters coming together with new ones in a certain tone. But by the way, the vehicles were also originally designed by McCarthy.
I know some of those were re-designed to some degree, but thinking that bringing some production designer somehow makes this comic have credibility is ridiculous.
It borrows to directly, in a too straight forward manner from Mad Max. As I said, it borrows so much from a movie that just came out (and that it's own by the same parent company by the way) that non of the characters are recognizable in the slightest.
