I actually want to hear Vision's take on all of this. In AoU he had his own reasons for helping. I hope he doesn't just follow Tony's lead.
>>
>>81737733
>its about muh buckey

WRONG!
>>
>>81737733
So literally the only time in this movie that they're going to attempt to follow the logic of the comic arc.
Okay then.
>>
>>81737733

>this clip has more ideological discussion between its lead characters then BvS had in the entire 2.5 hours

Also if the World Security Council isn't the MCU stand-in for the UN, what the fuck was it? Was it just the oversight committee for SHIELD?
>>
>>81737837
The movie was always about the accords. Bucky's just a big reason Cap disagrees with them.
>>
>>81737866
Thats because Snyder thinks having characters talk is stupid.

Given the tone of this clip and assuming there are a few scenes dealing with this sort of discussion, they could REALLY mess this up with poor writing/pacing/unfaithful characters.

I don't think they will, but this has the potential to be really poorly handled and received if everything outside the fight scenes is badly written attempts at deep commentaries and social issues.
>>
>>81737866
>2.5 hours and Snyder still can't add ideological conflicts between Batman vs Superman
That's what you get when they both act like dangerous vigilantes, for fucks sake Clark was supposed to be against Batman taking justice in his own hands yet Supes kills people without a second thought.
>>
>>81737938
This is Russo's though and not Snyder. I put my trust in them.
>>
>>81737938
>this has the potential to be really poorly received
no it doesn't that is pretty much impossible
>>
So wait is it Iron Man or Captain America that wants them to register? I always thought it was the other way around. Why would Tony want to be someones bitchboy when that's all Cap has ever been?
>>
>>81737866
WSC are just CIA 2.0. The UN are the public eye representatives of the world, on the other hand. It matters to be or not be impressionable in front of them.
>>
>>81737972
>Supes kills people without a second thought.
When did that happen?
>>
>>81737972
Batman: WHAT IS SUPERMAN IS A BAD GUY?? I MEAN WHAT IF? I shall kill superman before he turns bad.

Superman: I don't like how you're threatening people and trying to be a vigilante. What if you hurt or kill people? I can be the only vigilante here who can hurt or kill people because I'm better than you.
>>
>>81738011
>when that's all Cap has ever been
So you just didn't pay attention to TWS at all?

Pretty good conversation.

Damn, they keep releasing these new videos, I should stop watching them. Don't want the entire movie spoiled.
>>
>>81738045
The script may say otherwise but no one survives being slammed through 3 brick walls at mach speed.
>>
>Why would Tony want to be someones bitchboy when that's all Cap has ever been?

Guilt over creating Ultron. He was left to his own devices and ended up creating a machine that almost killed everyone on Earth, he might feel some measure of responsibility for that and he's always been someone who overreacts to bad situations.

I'm amazed that the MCU managed to actually write itself into a place where Tony being pro-reg would actually make some sense.

>>81738072

I never said it was deep.
>>
>>81738061
Kinda, that scene was kind of a jokeand...a bad one so he's pretty much did not kill anyone in BvS except like Mr.Doomsday.

>>
>>81738011
see: Avengers, AoU, Ironman 3 for Tony Stark's character development

see: Winter soldier for Steve Roger's character development.

Basically Stark wants to put the world in a suit of armor, he believes after the events of avengers that the world should be defended in any way possible and it's okay for people's rights to be taken away as long as they're safer in the long run. He's seen some deep shit and knows that if he doesn't do this, the world cannot survive another event where aliens, robots or whatever creatures will come out and kill everyone.

Steve Rogers has seen a lot of distrust over SHIELD after the events of Winter Soldier because Hydra has pretty much infiltrated a huge part of the government and if a secret society like SHIELD can be infiltrated, how about others? By restricting the freedoms of the people, it pretty much means giving up their other rights instead for this freedom. Is this the right thing to do? Steve Rogers doesn't think so and knows that there are forces beyond his control that will try to control the avengers.

Bucky is basically the catalyst for the war as Steve sees redemption for him like the other members of the avengers that were seen as horrible people before they used their gifts for good. Steve wants the same for bucky but I assume Tony Stark (the ex weapons dealer) doesn't think Bucky can be redeemed and is ordered by the UN to capture him.

Sorry, poor wording, I don't think this scene is poorly written.

>watchmen
>people talk in their costumes the entire movie

I don't understand?
>>
>>81738011
Both characters have had their eyes opened in different ways by the movies. Tony was this play it by ear hotshot who was fucking reporters and painting his armor like hot rods, but then people around him started getting hurt. And then he went through a wormhole in space and saw the Chitauri fleet about to rain down on Earth. And then Wanda shows him a vision of all his friends dead. So he starts trying to put suits of armor around things. First with Pepper, then the Iron Legion, and most recently Ultron. Tony was humbled by things he couldn't understand and now he sees why someone would want to follow the rules.

Cap started out as a frail sickly kid who just wanted to help, and he got his chance to do that. He fought a good fight in Germany but ended up frozen. When he wakes up, the world is a more complicated, sinister place. SHIELD isn't just SHIELD, it's HYDRA. And before that, SHIELD was using the Tesseract to make nukes as a deterrent for Asgardians. Cap is a lot less naive now, he trusts himself and those close to him, but isn't a blind follower anymore. And that's why Iron Man is for the accords and Captain America is against them. At least in the movies.

sorry if this is dumb, i just wanted to ramble a bit

That's actually a strong critique of the United Nations that's been raised before, that they don't act when they should because of agendas. Like they spend peacekeepers into oil-rich Kuwait but dragged their heels during the Rwandan genocide.

WSC was basically analogous to the UN Security Council, and SHIELD was subservient to it. So, basically UN>WSC>SHIELD. It's that way in the comics, too, where SHIELD is more blatantly an arm of the UN.

>Cap's the obedient army boy at first, starts distrusting authority more and more through the movies. The SHIELD/HYDRA incident is what makes him oppose oversight and registration.
>Tony starts as the rebel who says fuck you to authority, as the movies progress he becomes more inclined to submit to authority. The Ultron fuckup and the SW vision is what makes him really paranoid and guilty, so oversight is what he seeks the most right now.

It's not that hard to understand why Cap is anti-reg and Tony is pro-reg in Civil War. The character development they go through is what brings them to this point.
>>
>>81739045
Again, Cap is against bullies. More and more, he's seeing how these authorities are trying to use him and people like him to bully and oppress those that don't have power, and he dislikes it.

I wonder when anyone is going to address what MCU is doing to Tony. In IM2 his confidence in his tech is compromised when he learns his father had help with the arc reactor. In Avengers he sees how vulnerable the Earth is and that fear drives literally everything he does afterwards. He's forced to confront his own limitations as a man in a metal suit in IM3, his paranoia leads to Ultron being created, and now his fear is forcing him to side with the UN, even though this trailer makes it seem like he feels there is no choice. Tony is overcompensating, constantly. He tries to protect the planet from aliens, goes too far. Tries to reign in his friends, goes too far. So far Tony is the antagonist of the MCU.
>>
>>81741036
RDJ said in the panel that Tony's arc in the MCU is to start with an arrogant dickhead and slowly peel back the layers of pretention and show him what a jerk he's been.

By contrast, Steve is perfect and has never made a bad decision up until this point where he does something potentially selfish for personal reasons.

Falcon is an 'ace' special ops soldier who wants to make his calls.

War Machine is a high-rank official company man who probably dislikes the mavericks.

Also they know one of them is bound to die first, and they probably feel uneasy.

I think with Steve is more of having someone who is believed to be selfless and who mostly is, having made a selfish decision for one person but at the cost of everyone else

and if some of the leaks are to be believed he is going to be the one that ultimately pays for that selfishness

Steve was never perfect though that's shown in the Avengers movies, even in his own.

Most US airlines have shitty food because there isn't any real incentive to pay good money for good food besides stuff you can put in the microwave. Usually only business class and above get anything good. Although /ck/ does have occasional threads regarding airplane and school food and airlines like Korea Air and whatnot have much more visually appealing food.

>>81743502
And capeless in business casual attire.
>>
>>81739130
so bucky becomes evil again???
>>
>>81737790
What I got from AoU is that he feels he serves life. He regretted a unique form of like like Ultron had to be destroyed (and it's entirely possible he spared the last Ultron since the camera view switched from them and all we saw was a flash).

At any rate he'd seem more likely to go along with order rather than Cap's rebellion, believing a properly measured response is the best means of protecting humanity. Checks and balances to powered beings would make sense.

Unfortunately I don't think he's fully realized yet how short-sighted and bull-headed humans can be, especially politicians. The first time he sees a country where people are starving, dying from disease, but he's ordered not to help because that country is under UN sanctions that restrict aid he'll hit that moment of Does Not Compute that equates to, "You monkeys are nuts."
>>
>>81743155
And yet I don't think they are wearing their casuals because it's worried they can't talk about this stuff in costume, it's to emphasize that in or out of costume this is an issue that doesn't go away. There are matters that don't respect that you are "off the clock." And yes there is merit in showing them dealing with issues like that while dressed as "real people" - which doesn't preclude them having discussions in costume, which will no doubt happen as it's happened in the past.

Can Thor not talk amongst his people? Can Wonder Woman? Does it change cause their "costumes" are closer to their people's natural dress? What about the Guardians of the Galaxy? Do we need to see Drax and Rocket dressed in a suit or casual sweats before they can discuss anything with credibility?

It's a super hero movie, it's not The Godfather or Citizen Kane. Embrace what it is. When you start acting like you can't handle the costumes, like you're embarrassed, you've done your movie a disservice. The director's job is to sell what is in the script, find a way to make it work, and if he can't handle the genre maybe he's working on the wrong kinds of movies.
>>
>>81737866
WSC was the stand in for a "private" version of the UN, which oversaw SHIELD.

When it was revealed that SHIELD was Hydra, it broke both SHIELD and the WSC.

Right now if they care to mention it, SHIELD is the "private" version of the UN and the ATCU is the "public" version of the WSC if that makes sense

Tony Stark is the Jimmy Newtron of the MCU. He basically fix his own sciency mistakes.

And "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain". Tony's been the hero, now he's thinking of world security, and by making the scope bigger, his actions get more and more morally gray.
>>
>>81743223

Don't forget Iron Man 3, where he realizes he should care more about world security and his capabilities as "the mechanic" for building something meanignful for mankind in his lifetime and not just punch his ways with the Iron Man suit as a hero.
>>
>>81737733

>>
>>81743223
Not quite. Tony is a smart guy and there';s the tendency for smart people to think they have all the answers, especially narcissists like Stark. He thinks that putting someone in charge (ie him) is the best way to deal with this problem.

Cap on the other hand believes in personal freedom as the best way to keep things safe. It's classic Individualism vs Collectivism.

>>
>>81738367

>>
>>81748003
Because in his eyes, it's the right thing to do. It wouldn't be the first time he stood up to a higher authority because he didn't like the way they acted.

It's why he got sent to prison in the first place, and it's part of why he decided to help Pym, even if it meant dying and losing his daughter.

>>
>>81748003
But everything he did in his movie was going outside the law, so this isn't really any different. It's actually character consistency that he keeps getting in these situations, since the first time he went to prison it was for exposing crooked shit but in a way the law didn't appreciate.

This is more like the story of his life right now, which he even alludes to.

Winter Soldier showed that those in the government can't be trusted, because the senator leading the charge for Tony to surrender his Iron Man tech was a goddamn Hydra agent. And in Age of Ultron, they were still fighting Hydra, so they should know they're still active and possibly still embedded in positions of power. I'd cite Agents of Shield as an example, but the MCU doesn't give a shit about that.

But that's exactly the bloody point, the 'supervision' would compromised either by Hydra in the seat of power directly like Gideon Malick, or people Hydra are manipulating like General Talbot. You can't fight corruption when you're under it's yoke.
