Last time this got storytimed /co/ was kicking ideas around on how to make it good, including making the crime city make sense, making his girlfriend a real character, having their relationship develop naturally, less black and white morality, more details on his fucked up relationship with his parents, etc.

Lightbringer was written by Lewis Lovhoug(Linkara) and it was pretty terrible. The premise is that Lightbringer lives in Pharos City. A city filled with crime and overrun by the gang called the slavers. So he becomes the world's first superhero. Every villain is a strawman to the ends justify the means. This ranges from the guy who uses slave trade but uses most of his gangs profits to donate to public schools all the way to a serial killer who murders prostitutes.

Yeah this comic was Linkara's realistic take on superheroes. Though it begs the question, how did Lightbringer get his powers? Why is it after Lightbringer becomes a hero there's a fuck ton of villains but no one other than the jailbait are stepping up to try to be heroes? How the fuck do you lawyer way out of slavery? How come there aren't any villains who don't try to pretend what they'd doing is good but they're in fact doing it for selfish ass reasons?
Despite all of that shit, it's entertaining on how bad it is. Or at least the majority of it because then Linkara hires out like three different artist near the end and it loses the charm of it's horrible art style

He seems pretty OP, too. And no intrinsic, connecting logic to the powers, either: it's all light-based, until 'flight', and then he throws 'hard light constructs' in there. That's pretty damn broad.
Hmmm. If he turned himself into light, then 'flight' would follow and it would match the whole theme. But he could only travel line-of-sight or via reflective surfaces, like the Ray.
And 'hard light'... what does that even mean. Why can't it be electromagnetic force fields.
...Like everybody in this business, I have tried my hand in the past at designing power sets. Unifying logic was my credo, but it rarely works out. The genre is and will always be ruled by what looks or seems cool.

Quality per se is less important to him than the spirit in which something is made. He tends to be merciful to comics which try hard, even if they fail, to be good, and promote the heroic ideal. He despises mean-spirited and lazy comics.

I feel like his treatment was kind of sympathetic? Like, "He makes a good point but he's going about it all wrong."
He's clearly threatened by the autonomy of women and female sexuality if he thinks he's repudiating "society" for failing to keep women from having all the sex they want.
But I don't think Linkara or Lightbringer exactly saw it that way. They both seem to be a little uncomfortable with those things as well.
