How does tradgedy effect writing skill guys?
>>
I think Morrison wrote the best Superman story
>>
>>81625349
I would day that Fallen Son suits more for Loeb
>>
>>81625349
>That Leth one

How the fuck is she sane let alone a writer?
>>
It gives you an appreciation for situational gravity. Increasing the gravity of key situations without having to rely on action and punching makes for more human moments that most all audiences can appreciate.
>>
>>81625349

How do you know this about Kate Leth?
>>
>>81625469
She's not

Who else did 9/11 affect?
>>
Sam Nova should be put under Loeb's name for obvious reasons
>>
>>81625590

Morrison quit doing drugs after 9/11. If this is good or bad is up to personal taste
>>
>>81625616
Duggan wrote a majority of it though.
>>
>>81625888
Yeah but Loeb created it

Her comics
>>
>>81625590
Oh yeah should probabaly add Tom Kings blatant Ptsd to OP
>>
>>81625590
Miller is an alchoholic who had his wife leave him
>>
Morrison's wife could die and he'd write a Gravity's Rainbow/Captain America crossover to cope.
>>
>>81626039
Grant's wife is his agent, she literally handles all his affairs while he does his writing. He would barely function.
>>
>>81626019
Yeah add this to the OP

So were all comic writers in new york when 9/11 happened or something?
>>
>>81628016

Well, isn't that where Marvel and DC and maybe others (I'm not well-versed on this) were located?
>>
>>81628016
Miller sure as hell wasn't.
>>
>>81628079
You do realize you can work from home for comic book companies, right? Bendis lives in Portland for crying out loud.
>>
>>81628148

Yeah (like I said, I"m not too saavy about that) but I assume that they might have to show up every now and then, especially back in 2001.
>>
People who work in creatives fields and define themselves by their imaginations are more likely to be thinking about and therefore vulnerable to events that would change the future of the society. 9/11 was a catastrophic shock to the American psyche.

I pulled this entirely out of my ass.
>>
>>81625349
I feel bad for wanting someone to draw loli leth now
>>
>>81629156
Well you should.
Feel bad, I mean. Not draw loli Leth.
>>

Why? Now you have a scenario to draw on for inspiration.

>How the fuck is she sane let alone a writer?

Because writers are famous for being sane
>>
>>81633023
She's literally tumbler incarnate.
>>
>>81633147
It felt good to have something she could control.
>>
>>81633251
I'd like to see you come out well adjusted after that.

Although you are here, so none of us are probabaly the sanest
>>
>>81633263
She could've done something else she could control though. Cutting yourself is silly. Self harm is silly.
>>
>>81633023
Where does that mentioned being raped?
>>
>>81625349
Well clearly OP discrete tragedies - single, crushing events that have a formative influence - are less difficult to get over than ongoing tragedies, and the distraction that any tragedy causes a writer is proportionate to that duration of tragic effect.

It's pretty simple, I'm surprised you don't understand it.

For example, Jeph Loeb's son dying of cancer wasn't a quick, relatively painless event, and is arguably one that few parents could possibly prepare for in a first-world country; so the distraction from his work and the commensurate effect upon it are huge.

Yes, mental illness is silly anon. Makes people do things they normally wouldn't do. That's the point of it.
>>
>>81625349
CAN WE PLEASE STOP USING THE WORD "TRAGEDY" TO MEAN "SOMEONE I KNOW HAPPENED TO DIE"?
>>
>emotionally abusive bdsm relationship with a married man twice her age who died of cancer

Huh, here I thought all the fuss was over the cheating. What exactly went down?
>>
>>81633542
Cause the mind is always totally rational
>>
>>81627363
Don't forget that he got planted at the Emmys with a date, and he still went on to write Harley & Ivy and Gotham City Sirens
>>
>>81633542
That's not how that works.

Look at it this way: why do you come to /co/? You know it's not really about comics and cartoons; why come here? To pick through the shit for conversations that interest you? For the semi-pornographic cosplay threads that repost the same damn images over and over? The endless shitposting of the Win-O and drawthreads?

No, you come here because it's familiar; even if it's not, you go a lot of places because they're familiar, and not just on the internet. That restaurant you like? You go there because it's familiar. It's a measure of control in cold and inhuman universe. There's a dozen great places to eat that you could go instead and you go there anyway and you rationalize it as knowing what you like, being familiar with the staff, knowing you won't have to wait for a table or service, knowing - and probably being wrong about - the hygiene of the chef; you'll go there until it closes or something terrible happens to snap you out of the delusion that you *should* go there. Except nothing is ever really likely to snap you out of it; what's more likely is that you'll get bored and forget about it as something new comes along to take your interest over. But you'll keep going to that restaurant because everything about it - even the journeys to and from - are familiar to you. They're habit. Someone rings a bell and you salivate because that's what you have trained yourself to do.

Compulsive behavior is simply human. When it's gone wrong, and it's hurting us - I mean do you walk up to smokers and tell them they're silly? You pick fights with smackheads and lushes about how silly they are? You ever talk down to your buddies when they drive badly out of habit and rationalize it to you?

Welcome to humanity, we're all pretty shitty.
>>
>>81633672
Every death is a tragedy to someone, anon, even if only the person who's dying.

Tragedy isn't a currency to be traded and measured against itself; tragedy is one half of a binary.
>>
>>81633649
>>81633792
>>81633852
I was looking at it from an ignorant standpoint. It's just because I don't have a mental illness, at least to my knowledge. Sorry about that, anons.
>>
>>81628148
NOW
in 2001 it could be done I'm sure. But I don't think the norm was to just overnight i send thing in digitally.
>>
>>81634045
Plenty of writers used the internet back in 2001.
Now if you're talking early 90s or the 80s, they probably faxed in their scripts.

This is an insult to people who actually try to fucking kill themselves, I hate people like that
>>
>>81637155
So she didnt google and gave herself a fucked liver. No. Biggie
>>
>>81637155
Yeah, you have to swalllow several bottles of Tylenol at once to actually do enough damage to your liver to give yourself an agonizing death over days. She probably gave herself some scarring though, but she's probably a heavy drinker too so it was going to get damaged regardless.

Honestly I don't even know who this whiny cunt is but if those are the comics she makes then yeah she's failed at life and should probably give suicide another go

Hey she currently writes Hellcat for Marvel, that's some degree of success.
Granted it's doing cancellation numbers and will probably get stealth-canceled any month now, but for a brief period of time, she was published by one of the big two.
>>
>>81637657
I remember liking the cover to that #1, honestly I don't read ongoings any more, I'm only ever dissapointed. Been reading a lot of tried and true stuff. Silver/bronze marvel and DC, 70s comix, well aclaimed stuff from the early 00's, shit like that
