Them are fighting words, anon. MAX had some great artists: Fernández, Medina, Parlov and others. In fact the only one I can think that was bad was Chaykin in that one issue he drew of "Long Cold Dark". No one can do Barracuda like Parlov does.

I think a lot of the bad rep Dillon gets with his art is partially attributed to his colors. His panels suffer quite a bit from how dull the scenery is and such. This really stuck out to me during that one arc where Frank is on the island, dealing with The Russian and that general. Very underwhelming backgrounds.

>Geek: Speaking of The Punisher MAX line, I am absolutely fascinated by your run. After reading Punisher: Born I began to wonder if Frank is actually driven by some sort of supernatural dark force. Could he be considered someone that’s been gifted with a higher (or lower) power?
>Ennis: To me, that whole sequence was about – it’s written in that classic way where maybe it’s there, maybe it’s all in his head. It’s more a man coming to terms with his own fate, his own destiny, and the path he’ll walk through the world. A man being honest with himself about who he is. At home he has the wife, the kid, the other kid on the way, meanwhile he’s up to his neck in horror. He likes it, and he’s coming to terms with that and admitting it.
>Ultimately, it’s his ability to embrace this that allows him to survive and come home to his wife and kids. He’s made a kind of deal with the attraction to the violence in himself that will, in a way, draw his family into that world too. Again, you can read it anyway you want (laughs) but that’s my own personal take!
>>81580777
It's strangely prescient for a hallucination.
>>81580833
Yeah, it's dumb. It kind of ruins Born for me desu.

Glad I'm not the only one who prefers the first Punisher book Ennis did. Both are great, but the other one just feels more restrained and lighthearted for the better.
>Dillon
Any chance Dillon will only do one arc?
I wish Cloonan did the art for this too, why the fuck isn't she drawing anymore? She's great.
>>81584034
>I wish Cloonan did the art for this too, why the fuck isn't she drawing anymore? She's great.
She's doing covers for Shade, The Changing Girl from the new in-continuity Young Animal imprint.
>>81584077
Well yeah I meant interiors.
I guess writing/doing covers/commisions on the side is much easier than doing interiors. I heard doing covers pays really well too.
>>81578923
>how did you guys feel about the way Aaron treated the character and how he ended the MAX series?
Don't know if I'm alone here, but I was not a fan of how he dealt with Frank. The whole "Frank really just never loved his family when he came home and was about to leave them" bit just seems to kind of shit on everything we've seen from Frank before.
I think Daredevil did a much better job with handling Frank and his family.
The whole arc just felt off, like we got Frank as a shell of his former self. I guess that's one way to have a Punsiher run end, with Frank going out tired and worn down, but it doesn't feel right.
I want to be optimistic, I truly do, but I did re-read Punisher Max just last week and I just know we will never have a punisher like that ever again, it's perfect and that's a fucking hard standard to reach.
I'll read this no doubt, and hopefully it will be good, but no chance in hell it will compare to Ennis run sadly.
Hopefully it will prove me wrong.
>>81576924
This, not only Ennis does write what's probably the perfect run on the character, but the art of it it's mind-blowing good for 59 out of the 60 books, it's astonishing.
>>81584330
Punisher Max is the only true Punisher. MK Punisher comes close, but it just doesn't reach.
>>81584922
That's complete fucking bullshit. Dixon's run at it's best was like a PG-13 version of Ennis' and Welcome Back Frank is just as great as the MAX stuff if not better. There's plenty of material worth reading outside of MAX. The Archie crossover is probably the pinnacle of the character.
>>81577969
Bottom left is just flat-out Jesse Custer. Damn.
Dillon's a much better artist than the ones in the previous two ongoings.
>>81561672
It's time
Nothing annoys me more than Steve Dillon.
I'd rather have Edmenson back on.
>We could have had Maleev on this
>He's fucking around on an Iron Man spin-off book and being Bendis' bitch.
I FUCKING HATE MARVEL SO MUCH
Man, either you really like Dillon or hate him. I admit his art was better and still could be. He's really good at expressions, and I think the cleanness of his work, it can get too pragmatic at times. I just can't hate his stuff Frankface and all.
>>81580777
Yes, the whole thing is ambiguous. But even in Ennis' personal take there's room for that "voice" to come back in those final moments of Frank. I wish Aaron had done that.
The only time Dillon's art looks decent is when he's drawing Punisher because that's the only time it fits.
>>81577969
Aaron's run was such fucking garbage.

>it's a frank
>>81561702
>>81562199
>>81578030
Well, he was a black dude before.
So is liking Dillon's art a meme? Sure he gave us Frankface, but that doesn't mean he's a good artist.
Sameface aside, his action, panelling and backgrounds are also mediocre.
>more fucking Dillon
He looks like he's trying harder than usual at least
but god damn it such better artists have worked on Frank, why can't literally any of them draw this series
>>81586702
Liking Dillon's art is a rarity. The amount of people that like him can be counted on one hand.
WOW
look at this incredible dynamic and exciting action scene
>>81587775
Why does Frank even slick his hair back?
>>81584175
>"Frank really just never loved his family when he came home and was about to leave them"
I think Aaron clearly showed Frank loved his family. It's just that that way of life as a family man just didn't suit him. The war made him realize that he loved killing and he couldn't live without killing. He could not be both a family man and a killer. If he had not loved his family in some sort of way he would have simply left his family without saying goodbye. He wouldn't have tried to work at those shitty jobs. He wouldn't have tried to stay out of trouble. He avoided the bosses asshole son even when he killed that girl. He got a job at that shitty bar and tried to stay clear of those gangsters. He was doing it for his family. He clearly tried to make it work but he became a different man than he was before the war.
He simply could not be the man he wanted to be for his family. No matter how hard he tried. And that's part of the tragedy of Frank.
