I feel like sending a formal written apology letter to Hussie for everything I wrote about him in these threads in the past few years.
I didn't like the undertale reference much because unlike most reference, it was lengthy and not at all subtle in the middle of a very intense battle.
For example, Roxy's street fighter moves were somewhat subtle, and not in your face (thought any SF fan would notice). Chaos Dunk was a funny reference, and only lasted one panel, and wasn't during an intense moment.
Undertale reference dominated the whole screen, lasted for awhile, and was completely in your face.
It's not a huge problem. I don't think too poorly of the whole thing, I'm not mad. But I do think it was bad.

These are my exact feelings.
I think a better way to do it would be without the layout and the BW color scheme. Just have LE at the top of the screen shooting tons of balls as a tiny Davepetasprite trying to avoid them.
Just a bunch of fights, huh? Don't really see why we needed that; could have postured just as well in comic form. Hussie, who has said on numerous occasions that he was tired of doing elaborate animations and that the spectacle of them had long since worn out, ends on an elaborate fight that is nothing but spectacle, when almost every major flash before had built up to one or more dramatic developments, often densely layered. Guess he felt obligated or something, but seems kind of defeated to me. Like he couldn't think of anything else. Kind of thought the whole point of the notVriska fakeout was that trying to settle things with a bunch of fistfights would end in a great big tragic mess. Any which way to an ending, I guess. Retcon remains unnecessary, SBurb remains background noise, events of actual importance remain in the single digits, emotional context remains coasting on characterizations which were established ages ago (not just time-wise, but page-wise).
Well, Hussie never was the best at finales.
I know we still got a few pages left, but after a 20 minute series of fights that accomplish nothing but house-cleaning, you know how this is going to end. Caliope pulls a rabbit out of her hat to fell LE, janitor comes and cleans up the bodies, kids bask in the possibilities of a new universe which they successfully create, gay ships hinted, curtains close, fade to black.

The only reason I can think of is Vriska and Meenah's plot armor.
The flash was even better the second time. First time there's just so much going on it's hard to really take it all in. Second time you just sit back and appreciate the clusterfuck of the all out strife.
Jade's part could have been composited a little better, but I still like how he chose to do that fight. Eventually PM just got tired of that shit and knocked her the fuck out. And I was pumped when she got the upper hand and the ring.
The music isn't synced quite as nicely as Cascade, which is disappointing, but I still enjoyed the music despite some awkward transitions.
But everything else I really enjoyed. Karkat and his charge, and Clover. Jake fighting the Felt, Jane healan, fraymotifan, Dave/Dirk brosan an sacrifican, Tavros, Meenah, Aradia holding it down against LE.
