Yup
>>
This didn't do it for me.
>>
>>81510396
But I thought the end of Secret Wars had T'Challa undo all of that.
Time Runs Out couldn't have happened because all Wakandans fucking died during that and the country was completely devastated.
>>
>>81510404
It was pretty bland. And it's pretty obvious as this book progresses it's going to focus mostly on the female characters and not BP himself, which is gay.
>>
Stelfreeze and Martin is a good combo, that page >>81510169 where Black Panther just becomes one tone is great.
>>
>>81510190
Wakanda is literally co
>>
>>81510339
Full incest vibes desu.
>>
Is this new? Not followed BP for a while
>>
>>81510389
All of these look great, I love how good Noto is at making costumed characters feel human.
>>
I really don't think the art is a great fit here. You're going with a very literary story, something very special and artists and colorist you choose are so basic and traditional? Cmon. Other than that, it was an okay issue. Felt like way too much was going on.
>>
>>81510434
I think the issue is there is too much writing and not enough visual stimuli. Pages 10-12, 13-15, and 22-23 are so visually similar with so little happening that any of those sets of pages has be nabbing to flip to the next one.
>>
>>81510128
Why are you lying?
>>
>>81510317
>No one man should have that much power.
The clock's tickin', I just count the hours
>>
>>81510501
The art feels almost Land-tier. It's not bad on a technical level, but it's so lifeless.
>>
>>81510501
Right? You can really feel that it's a comic written by a prose writer.
>>
The art is very pretty. I know Brian Steelfreeze always delivers.
I may gonna pick it up on the art reason alone.
>>
>>81510404
Really. Wakanda going to full shit was compellping, and turning the nation to an afro futuristic space opera was based
>>
>>81510495
You crazy? Its sleek and sexy and the design of wakanda its tech and its people looks fucking cool
>>
>>81510662
Meh, it's traditional capeshit art really. Would've liked to see something not so obvious.
>>

>>
Art does not suit this book's tone.
>>
>>81510404
Ok.
>>
>>81510774
Why not, dark sleek and high tech.

Perfect for.BP.

Ta Ne called it a space opera on earth and it shows
>>
>>81510774
Absolutely true. Prose like this doesn't need pictures.
>>
>>81510807
You're shilling way too hard friend. Bigger offender here is shit colorist.
>>
>>81510607
I think it gives the story more weight. It's flowery but in a story about a King it fits
>>
The issue felt mostly like setup, but I think it established itself well and I'm interested in the conflict.

>>
>>81510908
this. lots of moving pieces, lots of worldbuilding, so i can definitely forgive it being a little talky. seems like an encouraging start, what'll make or break it is whether coates is gonna be able to keep all those plates spinning as the series goes on
>>
Wasn't this comic supposed to be mind-blowing according to reviewers? I don't even know what people are supposed to find great about it. It looks like a standard first issue. I've expected some E if for Extinction tier shit.
>>
>>81511295
Didnt new x mens first issue just blow up genosha and give new costumes?
>>
>>81511316
Yeah but blowing of Genosha was extremely well done.

>defending Marvel colorist
I hope you choke on a cock and die.
>>
>>81511295
Issue 1 shock value is a dangerous trend.
>>
>>81510128

Good god, the prose in this is so inorganic and clumsy. You can tell the guy has never written fiction before.

I get what he's going for, we're thrusted into a chaotic civil war situation. The problem is the dialogue is so opaque and word-y, the situation doesn't feel immediate or dangerous.

This is why I don't trust reviewers, LOL @ Oliver Sava jerking off to this.
>>
>a black lesbian couple literally going to tear down the Patriarchy
I laughed. This is definitely a Marvel book.
>>
>>81511295
it's an issue 1 from the big 2, they always get praising reviews even the shit ones
>>
>>81510201

>>
>>81512270
This one will get rave reviews no matter what because muh Mr Coates is writing socio-political message.

>>81512403
>implying he's wrong
>>
I liked it, but I don't think it lived up to the hype. I'll keep reading it cause I did like the art on a technical level. I guess it could use a little more umph to really get the story going.

>>
Eh, it was a solid issue, but not "amazing" like all the sites are calling it. But I'll check out the next issue at least, so I guess that's all that matters?
Some of the liberal sites are going ape-shit crazy over it though.
>>
So prior to this ongoing Hickman mostly had control of the character right? How'd that go?
>>
It's alright. I'm not eager to praise it as a profound take on the character and say it's brilliant in its socio-political commentary as some in the press likely will do.

Coates has definitely set the stage for something that could be pretty good though. I'll try to be unlike Marvel and the press by waiting for a few more issues before I start demanding it gets Eisners and Image Awards.

I'm not saying it should happen, cocksucker. Just that it will.

>i was only pretending to be retarded
>>
Why am I supposed to root for BP? Everything presented here indicates Wakanda's whole political system is shit and their people are against it.

Also, audibly laughed at the term Nigandan.
>>
>>81510404
Yeah. The drama is kinda compelling, but the execution is pretty mediocre
>>
>>81514239
Niganda has actually existed in comics for years, they're Wakanda's asshole neighbours
>>
>>81511316
Uh, no. You've got to remember that that issue came out at the end of the 90's, a time when X-Men comics arguably represented the creative nadir of Big Two publishing. Morrison's writing, the new costumes, and Quitely's art in general was like when The Wizard of Oz turns from black and white, drab Kansas to technicolor fantasia.

It was a sea change.

(I like this issue, btw, but Coates' take on T'Challa is pretty clearly a riff on Hickman's work).

Like others have said I'm not blown away by this, but it was very solid, which is more than I can say for most of Marvel's current line.

I'll pick this up for at least a few issues, I see potential here.

/co/ is weird I've seen much worse comics get praised on this site and here we have a good comic but its just okay or amateurish
>>
>>81516237
Okay. Which worse comics, particularly? What qualifies this one as good?
>>
>>81516237
It's a good comic, but /co/'s reaction is understandable after all the media hype, which describes it as the best comic to ever grace the shelves of comic book shops in recent years. But the thing is, it's not even the best book to come out this week.
>>
>>81516316
What comic is better because I've read a bunh of shit so far?

>>81516269
Ghost Rider, New Avengers etc
>>
>>81516383
New Avengers is a very different book to this, but I have no qualms in calling it a better one, kind of comics qua comics. Something aiming at a more meaningful target doesn't necessarily make it better, and the composition of the thing still had to be good.

I dunno if you mean ANGR (which was fun and had great art, but I agree wasn't particularly special) or something else for Ghost Rider.

Quick question:
When you read someone's solo book who's also on a team, say like how black panther is on the ultimates. He's supposed to be in space with the ultimates, when does he come back to earth to be in this book?
I guess I'm asking how do you know the timeline of events?

The editor's job used to be keeping that shit straight in every decade before the mid-00's.

>>81520726
The only time it's really necessary to frame it is when something happens to the character.

Writing is honestly really awkward and pedestrian. Art isn't bad but it doesn't really fit the tone? I feel like the artist on today's suicide squad would be a better kind of fit. Not that bad though, and this is definitely not a terrible start. Will read more.
>>
>>81514417
To be fair he's drawing from all the recent writers who used T'challa

> “I am really taking seriously what people did before me,” he said. “If Achebe did rule that country for a period of time. If KIllmonger actually did kill the King, if Morlun did cut a swath through that country and kill M’Baku and a bunch of other people, if Doom did plot with the Desturi and overthrow the government and damn near did kill T’Challa himself, if Shuri and him did have this break and Dora Milaje did turn their back on him, if Namor did perpetrate this holocaust... what would that country look like after all of that?”

Ta-Nehisi Coates was on All Things Considered this evening and he was talking about how sometimes T'Challa would just walk off and do stuff outside Wakanda w/o leaving Shuri in charge and now I'm worried. Shuri was only created as a character about 10 years ago. Of course he didn't leave her in charge. He's appointed others as regent, like N'Gassi and Everrett.

So this is the literary comic event of the year.

No.

That's Angela. obviously.

Klaw's still alive and kicking

Hickman's New Avengers because based Wakanda
>>
>>81526450
Killmonger, the only enemy T'Challa couldn't defeat. I wish he was revived again
>>
>>81528158
He'll probably show up in the movies if BP gets a sequel. Klaw will clearly be the first movie's villain.
>>
>>81510148
I WUZ KANGZ
>>
That was pretty good looking forward to the next issues
>>
>>81528158
Technically he beat him everytime
>>
>>81531066
Not really. Every time they fought some third party showed up in the nick of time to save his ass
>kid by the waterfall
>Killmonger died during the fight after eating the heart shaped herb and got revived and then T'Challa got beat and Killmonger was the Black Panther and then... ??? I forgot, a lot of weird shit went down in Priest's run
>Monica Rambeau(?)

There's no work on your art thread...I think.

So I'm just trying to turn this into a wallpaper or something without credits. And I'm wondering if I should fill the plank space at the bottom with anything?
>>
>>81532307
he caused a ruckus and brought attention scanbro's scanbroing to comics companies
>>
>>81532307
Well, you know how he gets 90% of his "rumors" from browsing /co/ and either lifting shit directly from here and attributing it to "insider sources" or just making clickbait aimed at getting /co/'s attention then posting the threads here?

He started doing that with the scanbro threads, which caused scanbro to have to stop doing it for fear of Marvel finding out thanks to good ol' Rumor Rich shining a big ol' spotlight on it all to break some "hot scoops."

How?
>>
>>81512456
It's mostly because of Marvel pushing it as the next big thing in funny books. When intellectual blog writers can teach comic writers about storytelling.

King was an intern at Marvel and DC, working under Claremont. He even wrote a novel and comics before working for DC.

of course anon, it's going to get pushed because of Civil War, and of Muh Diversity.

Who gives a shit why it's getting pushed?

Y'all weren't saying this shit when Doctor Strange started getting pushed

Wait, so she is being punished for killing a rapist?

Pretty sure a few people were saying that around here.

she's being punished for vigilante justice, basically

But nobody was doing anything about him.

That's part of the story

You could probably put the Wakandan panther symbol in the bottom left corner. The trapezoid thingy is fine as is

>hating the cape

HACK!!!
>>
>>81537722
Wait. You liked the cape? I agree with the artist. Unless T'Challa is doing some ceremonial shit, he should not be wearing a cape.
>>
Feels like every painfully average fantasy/sci-fi story that spends more time world-building and introducing a bunch of names of things rather than moving the plot forward or developing characters.
>>
>>81537259
>>81537401
thanks, I'll give that a try
>>
>>81540208
Cool. Post it when you finish!

>Shuri in a glass tube awaiting resurrection
Going all Earth's Mightiest Heroes' Kang, eh T'challa.
>>
I enjoyed it, I think a lot of the cape books of late that have pursued single characters have been overall better than the team-up/crossover stuff (Vision, Midnighter, Constantine, Cpt. Marvel). The more focused character history leads to a less decompressed and more empathetic overall story.

It's alright so far.

I don't like the dialogue. It seems amateurish. I know what it's going for and all, I've written similar things. But it falls kinda flat and feels kinda dry.

Also, it seems like everyone only has the slightest of personalities. I mean, it's only the first issue and all, but I'm not going to be able to tell you everyone's personality beyond a few adjectives yet.

Best thing about this issue has been all the cool Afrofuturism. It's something you don't see much of.
>>
>>81532310
How about some text about the character.

"KING. WAKANDAN. AVENGER. DEFENDER." et cetera

there's some neat Kirbyesque inking in spots but also a lot of dull house style colouring
>>
>>81541286
I mainly agree with you, but counterpoint: Ultimates.
>>
>>81548251
You know what would make this book? Some earlier Vertigo style coloring. Vision really has that feel that this book should also have.
>>
>>81547514
>It seems amateurish.
it is.

It's the writer's first comic book. Dialogues in comic books work differently from dialogues in books.

Let's see if it gets better over time.
>>
>>81546645
>white space
How about "The Black Panther" instead of "Black Panther" also what this guy suggested >>81547520
>>
I can't stop reading this comic. Can hardly wait for issue 2!
>>
>>81547514
>Also, it seems like everyone only has the slightest of personalities. I mean, it's only the first issue and all, but I'm not going to be able to tell you everyone's personality beyond a few adjectives yet.
You know what, I'll retract this since it's literally just the first issue.
>>
>>81547514
I think the awkwardness of the dialogue will improve as Coates gets used to writing for the comics medium.
>>
>>81548689
The only thing I have to go off of is 100 Bullets but if that's what you mean, I agree
