I agree, he definitely works hard to make sure there's always strips on the site on time. Especially since he does a dramatic strip with punchlines, it's important that he plot out the storylines and figure them out in advance.
I just think we're really used to seeing guest comics or splash pages when someone is sick, at a convention or takes a holiday break on other comics, and that really shouldn't be the norm if it's your job*. It's crazy that DoA is one of the few story-based strips that doesn't have random guest weeks in the middle of events throwing stuff off. But I think of that more as him doing his job at a competent level while others do poorly.
*I'm not saying cartoonists shouldn't take holidays, but I do think you can work a standard work week (or a bit less) at home minus holidays and interruptions and still have strips up for when you take those breaks. As long as it's not a commentary on current events.
