Nick and Judy are just highly applicable characters. They are a good example of appealing to most-common-denominators.
You could take Nick and Judy, and their story, and move them across time and settings and it would tell the same story and hold much the same meaning. It's a tale that resonates with us deeply as human beings and even in nature itself when humanity struggled to have better adaptations than "climb trees, taste-like-shit to predators, and walk fuck-long distances".
That said, I totally would love to see this applicability depicted by showing scenes from the movie rendered in different settings/genres.

But i would love to recreate and explore the Savage City script, i would want to make that story come to life as accurately to the original vision as i can, i've got the artbook and i've watched the documentary, i've seen their scenes the dynamic they were making and i would very much love to remake it if i can.
I look at this comic and im very curious where it will lead, from my own research I've found whom i believe to be the Savage City villain and I'm going to start practicing that character very soon.
