Is there anybody out there still boycotting Spider-Man comics because of OMD and BND?
>>
I remember Alex Ross saying he got rid of his JMS Spider-Man run over "Sins Past." I wonder if he's bought any Spider-Man since then
>>
>>81397869
Sins Past was Gwen Stacy boning Norman Osborne right? Funny, I heard somebody complaining about that the other day but I don't remember who.
>>
>>81397869
>I wonder if he's bought any Spider-Man since then
And yet, he's happy drawing Spider-Man. Enough money makes you swallow all of your pride.
>>
>>81397869
He'll draw it for money tho. Ross is a fucking hypocrite.
>>
I've been boycotting spider-man since the ben reilly saga
>>
Why would anyone read current Spider-man or X-Men comics?
>>
>>81397869
I can say Sins Past was much worse than OMD. I was never actively boycotting it but I haven't read it since the Gautlet and Kraven and I only read those last year. It's just incredibly uninteresting and has been for years now, with only sporadically interesting stories. And most of those seem to be disappointing in the end.

He did some paintings for Spider-Man 2 and bragged to Wizard magazine that he "did not raise the webs," meaning he painted the Romita costume and made it look enough like the movie design to satisfy whoever was paying.
So if he still doesn't believe in buying Spider-Man, he's probably scoring his cover gig as some kind of subversive victory.
>>
>>81398549
Has it been retconned? I'd be surprised if it hasn't considering the weird Gwen Stacy craze recently.
>>
>>81397740
not that his opinion should be taken seriously, but linkara's gone on record that he's never bought a spider-man comic since and will never buy one.
>>
>>81397740
I wouldn't say that I'm boycotting Spider-Man. It's more that OMD just killed my interest in the character (and certainly damaged my interest in comics in general for several years).

I grew up a diehard Spider-fan and when OMD happened I finally realized that nothing really mattered. I was not the audience Marvel wanted. I just had this big realization that I was being financially and emotionally loyal to all these characters that no longer appealed to me.

So I dropped a zillion books and never looked back. Nowadays, I buy one or two floppies a month and pick up the occasional trade. I haven't touched a Spider-book since. Nor have I wanted to.

Enjoying books a la carte is much more satisfying to me now than it was when I was a total fanboy.

Sins Past never happened.
>>
>>81398767
I think people just forgot about it. Like that mini-series about Aunt May and Uncle Ben fucking Peter's parents. You just don't wanna thank about shit like that so you just hope everyone forgets. Like that time Wolverine started devolving and then everyone just ignored it because fuck that.
>>
I don't know about OMD, but there's plenty of other Spider-books to keep me occupied until someone finally murders Dan Slott.
>>
>>81398549
I actually didn't mind Sins Past. It was literally just an excuse for the writers to bring back Gwen except more sexy and a secret agent, and make Peter hate Norman more.
>>
>>81397740

Haven't bought a Spiderman book since the clone saga shit ages ago.
>>
People are still boycotting. I know super trolls Kirk Boxleitner and Jesse Baker still hold it as a badge of pride that they refuse to buy Spider-Man until One More Day gets overturned.
>>
>>81398767
The current Gwen Stacy trend involves an alternate universe version of the character, who is pretty far divorced from the normal Gwen Stacy that fans are willing to tolerate her given how her existence doesn't affect the main (dead) Gwen Stacy
>>
>>81399097
I don't get how Slott hasn't got bored. Surely he has told every story he can with Pete right?
>>
>>81399428
Who are you talking about?
>>
>>81399533
Pair of sexual deviant comic fans who hate everything.

Trust me, you don't want anyone to go into further detail. That way leads to one needing to bleach their brain to get rid of the unclean...
>>
>>81399097
Is the current Spidey 2099 good? I loved the original series.
>>
>>81399001

>>
>>81399646
Trouble by Mark Millar.

Basically Peter's Parents and Aun May and Uncle Ben spent a wild summer sleeping around with each other
>>
>>81399646
Look up Trouble. It was storytimed recently. I'm sure that if you ask, someone will do it. Though be warned, it's part of the unholy trinity of /co/ for a reason. It, Marville, and That Which Must Not Be Named
>>
>>81399696
>>81399726
Thanks! I can handle One More Day and GwenNorman, I'm pretty sure I can still masturbate to this
>>
>>81399645
Not that anon but I've read all the issues that are out and have enjoyed it so far. Miguel's suit also looks fucking sick
>>
Spider-Man and the rest of the Spiders almost always get shit writers or shitty artists, somtimes both. I don't know why.
>>
>>81399726
Girls?
>>
>>81399757
Trust me, You can't
>>81399864
No. But I'll give you a hint. It's also written by Mark Millar
>>
>>81399797
Parker luck was always meta,.his misfortune was always having shitty writers who put him into shitty situations
>>
>>81399779
Slott has interesting ideas but his writing just seem stagnant now. Dude should be an editor or something. Superior was a cool character when other people were writing him.
>>

>>
No but they're still shit so I haven't bought one since then anyway.
>>
>>81398767
>>Has it been retconned?
No. JMS wanted to retcon it with OMD but Quesada said no.
>>
>>81399942
Why not? Art isn't that bad, is it?
>>
>>81399645
Compared to the original it's incredibly boring. I read the original run when I heard it was going to be relaunched and thoroughly enjoyed it, unfortanately the new book is no where near as good. Peter David just seems to have lost his touch. I heard he had a strok which might be why.
>>
>>81400150
Art's pretty meh, but the story will make you want to slice your wrists open
>>
>>81400150
The art is the only redeeming thing about Trouble (though the covers are shitty photographs of generic blondes, save for the first issue which had a variant cover by the interior artist).

The greatest sin of Trouble is that if you renamed the characters, it would be a perfectly serviceable romance comic fodder. Having the characters be Richard and Ben Parker and their wives May and Mary pretty much ensured the whole thing would be damned.
>>
>>81397993
His beef was with the JMS run, not the character as a whole you dumb fucking piece of shit loser.
>>
>>81400100
I'm with this guy.
>>
>>81400309
I know he was kinda wrong, but you cant just say stuff like that without knowing him, can you?
>>
>>81400271

>The greatest sin of Trouble is that if you renamed the characters, it would be a perfectly serviceable romance comic fodder

It's still a story about a narcissistic sociopath who manages to turn everyone's lives to shit around her, and a retard who refuses to fuck her boyfriend because a palm-reader told her it would get her pregnant. And the two male leads are completely generic lumps of hamburger who only have personality because they have the same names as characters we've heard of before, if they didn't they would both be glorified mannequins.

It's a shit cake no matter how then you slice it.
>>
>>81400611
Sounds like what women want to read
>>
>>81400699

It reads like a comic book prequel to Gone Girl at points.
>>
>>81397740
JMS was one of the best Spider-Man writers of all time. The only thing I didn't like was Sins Past.
>>
>>81397740
Yeah. Of course, the fact that most of the post-OMD comics have been shit made that easy. Although I did pick up RYV.
>>
>>81399986

Yes, and it is not any of us, his name is Dan Slott.
>>
>>81397740
i still read the newspaper strip, even if Peter is even more useless there...mainly because the writers decided "fuck editorial" and keep the marriage. Little things like that just make me think OMD did'nt acheive a thing. RYV was flawed as fuck, but had it's charm, and I consider either the 2009 Clone Saga remake or MC2 the real canon. Peter should be a dad

Yes, Spock rules, and not because of say, the plot bending over backwards for him while every one of Peters allies and friends becoming brain-dead idiots who don't ever figure out who he is except for Joebert Quesadilla's self-insert daughter [niece?] Carls Caper.

Who might I add, was the only one to resist the goblin serum and its brainwashing.

Yeah. Nobody.
Not even-
>The Avengers,
>Mary Jane
>Or Aunt May

Mmm. 10/10 character. Truly.
>>
>>81404289
Also the fact it lasted WAY longer than it should.

>>81404304
Dunno man, I get a sameface vibe sometimes, and sometimes the faces look pretty weird.
But yeah, it's far from the worse thing about Trouble.
>>
>>81404289
I wasn't entirely opposed to the idea of Superior Spider-Man, but I felt the death of Peter was a perfect opportunity for me to move on the from the story. Yeah I know it's all back to the basics now, but I haven't felt the urge to really read Spider-Man since.

I didn't like OMD though. I thought it was awful, but I didn't feel the closure from it that I got from that last issue of ASM.
>>
>>81404141
>recessive gene

Yeah, he's probably not the father.
>>
I don't get the hype behind Slott. Is Spidey run is so boring.
>>
>>81404372
Comics genetics.
Also isn't his mother's maiden name 'Fitzgerald'? Peter could have redheaded genes from that side of the family.
>>
>>81404365
Actually, OMD ends on an optimistic note because MJ is all "we'll overcome this one day, might take forever, but we will", ASM 700 ends on Peter abducting all his loved ones and telling a mass-murderer to carry on his legacy. I know which outcome I prefer. Both issues are car-wrecks though. If anything, RYV is the most closure I've ever had from Slott. He could have stopped right there and then
>>
>>81404328
dumb common sensefag
>>
>>81404377
Nobody over 30 likes Slott on the book, except apologist safe-zone websites that give it a good review just for an interview in return. Slott gives Marvel the kind of Spidey they want, so they keep him on it. I think Spidey is considered toxic for creators these days and there's probably a lot more people who want to write the spider-marriage (black panther's current writer is a marriage fan and he hated OMD)
>>
>>81404400
I still haven't forgiven Slott for introducing Regent.
>>
>>81404400
Yeah, ASM 700 was just the perfect kind of awful to get out of Spider-Man with.
>>
>>81397740

There are people now boycotting over Slott. How does Marvel's best character get the worst comics?
>>
>>81404439
Marvel cares more about the brand than they do their audience.

The more people who make illegal Spider-Man comics the better.
>>
>>81404365
>>81404400
>>81404522
If anything, I thought Spider Island was a perfect finale, if there was to be one. Even because it partly reversed OMD.
>>

Spider Island was a bizarre ride.

>>81404672

>>
>>81404785

>>
>>81404796
You have to wonder how many graves of Peter Parker clones there are.

>>
>>81404833
Yeah they dissolve bro sorry
I wish Jackal made like a lot of Gwen clones just for shits and giggles
Then there'd be like fifty Gwen clones running around
>>
>>81404599
The part about "partly reversing OMD"?
Ok, so a good part of the population of Manhattan go spider powers.

Peter goes live on tv using his powers, without the suit, to inspire the good citizens to use their powers to help against the ones on the villains' side.

Basically that cancelled the identity protection thing, I think. Those who learned about his secret identity from that civil war crap didn't remember, but closer friends who already knew it did (I'm going from memory here).

Also, he has a pretty chill moment with MJ at the end, which seemed to imply (to me at least) that Mephisto didn't have any influence in their lives from then on. It ended up in a sort of optimistic note.

...Anyway, I thought the story just turned out a LOT better than I could expect. Kinda like Curse of the Mutants. Maybe I was just in a good mood back then.
>>
>>81404858
Mephisto, isn't he like evil? What was the point of him saving Aunt May? What can he possibly get out of this?
Unless he's secretly a Gwen shipper or something.
>>
>>81404858
Mephisto already said a part of their souls would remember their marriage, but that they still would'nt ultimately get together to create their daughter, so moments like Spider-Island are then followed by stupid OOC shit in Superior where MJ cuts herself off from Peter rather than help him cope with Ock's mind-switch
>>
>>81404875
He ensured Annie May would'nt be conceived in 616. Considering how effective she was in uniting the Parkers to take down a God-killer like Regent, there's no telling what she'd have done to him if she lived in the main marvel universe
>>
>>81404875
He... got rid of Pete's marriage, because... uh... I dunno man, my guess is he had a deal with quesada or something?

And we know it's not Gwen shipping because, as someone pointed in this thread, quesadilla seems to be the one single Gwen/Norman shipper in the world.

I'm guessing it was just for that stupid policy of trolling comic readers.
(Not that I have anything against saving Aunt May, she's awesome.)
>>
>>81404936
Quesada wanted Gwen ressurected, so did JMS. Slott and everyone else lost their collective shit over it and persuaded both Joes not to go through with it.
>>
>>81404923
Probably more for trolling than self-preservation. Once Franklin Richards destroyed him completely, and didn't take long for him to come back because evil.
>>
>>81404923
Fuck man, I love that comic to death but it's a big fuck you to every character in the Marvel universe and also very unrealistic. Still comfy fun though.
>>
>>81404959
The fat bastard probably just wanted to have Norman bone her in the present to add insult to injury.
>>
>>81404973
I know, even MJ fans did'nt like how approving she was of Annie kicking ass in the story, MJ letting a teenage daughter do it is more realistic (hence why Spider-Girl is still the best example of Peter as a dad), but Annie was way too young to get involved in that shit
>>
So Peter dies in Spider-Gwen too, right?
These two just can't be together unless you're the based writers of the Spectacular cartoon.
>>
Radioactive cum.
>>
>>81405004
Actually, Wiesman confirmed a while back Peter/MJ was always going to be endgame for that show as well
>>
>>81405020
Fuck man, but Gwen was so obviously the lead and MJ was a total wingman about it.
Didn't Weisman say Gwen wasn't going to die?
>>
>>81405059
He did, yeah, he also planned to have the series continue as DVD movies. Peter probably would have been with Gwen at the end of the series, but then by the movies he'd choose MJ
>>
>>81405077
Th-thanks Disney...
You know I'd probably take three more seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man over the MCU should I had to choose between the two.

Quesada is fucking Pete/MJ shipper, he just played the fans to make them care about Spidey again with OMD. It's all about marketing purpose and Gwen/Norman thing is to ruined Peter/Gwen impression, make people choose Pete/MJ and get over Gwen already.

Guess what? It all work really well and according to his keikaku.
>>
>>81405221
I've actually never read it. I want to just to see how bad it is.
>>
>>81405228
Honestly, it didn't for me, and seems to be the same for a lot of people here. I only decided to give Brand New Day a shot because New Ways To Die seemed promising, and that was a while after BND had started. THEN I found out they had actually been bothering to tell some decent stories for a change.

I don't think of it in terms of a "boycott," but I haven't bought the title since then. I pull about a dozen monthly Marvel titles (I'm close to dropping about three of those, but I buy comics is the point) and ASM isn't one of them.

Spider-Man was my favorite character growing up and I firmly believe he is the world's best superhero character. That said, I just couldn't get on board with them jettisoning everything I'd spent all those years caring about and trying to reset him to an early 80's status quo.

Amazing to me that they thought him being a married guy with a small family (him, his wife and Aunt) was more a betrayal of the character than him being a rich playboy industrialist jet-setting around the world.
>>
>>81405415
Nah, MJ's long sine dumped that moron and went solo again, Bendis dropped him when he picked her up for Iron Man. Slott might reference him because he loves continuity, we'll see later this year when MJ returns in Power Play
>>
>>81408866
Honestly, it seems like they should have actually at some point traded in Aunt May for baby May. Beause they didn't have ANY reason to use her (having forgotten Peter's secret ID) other than muh nostalgia. They married her off to JJJ sr. because they couldn't figure out a reason for her to still be in the books.

>>81397740

Slott'll never have that record for longest stint. The daily strip writers hold that record (Stan's only credited in name only for it, it's his brother Larry that handles it, sometimes Roy Thomas also)
