I have stuck it out with Toonami since the first day of revival in 2012. I didn't like all the shows, but I just pressed on knowing something new would come soon. This Hunter x Hunter announcement crossed the line. Don't get me wrong, it's a great series. But there are now FOUR long running shows on Toonami now, meaning five slots are locked forever. (Since the rerun slot is essentially a throwaway) Some of you may say it's only 3-4 years. True, but I will remind you that is equivalent to how long Toonami has been on since revival. It's not a short timeframe.
Think about like this, as of today, Toonami will get between 4-6 new series per YEAR. That's it.
The spark isn't there anymore. The unique weekly banter is gone, and now most of the block is going to be the same for years. I honestly can't see anything that's left to encourage watching Toonami over just streaming. Why drudge through all these long shows for years just to finish one arc? A handful of new Samurai Jack and FLCL episodes well off into the future are not motivaters for the many months ahead without them.
I already know a lot of you will disregard this for two reasons, one being that your love of HxH is blinding you to this issue, or two that you figure I'm just whining because I don't like the new show. This block is dead either way

From an optimistic standpoint, it's honestly possible that we may be looking at an expansion this year. Four long-runners means that there's four timeslots they don't have to spend money on. If the ratings are better than they've ever been according to Demarco, that may justify getting another 30 minutes either before or after the block. They won't air the world premiere of an adult revival of one of America's most memorable cartoons *after* Dragon Ball Z, nor will they move DBZ because the "DBZ only" fans nationwide have their DVRs set to midnight because that's when it's been on since it came back. Successful ratings have gotten us an expansion before. Jason said that "too many show changes and not enough money" was what got the block shortened, so perhaps we may have some good news for later.

Just more of a combination of the two. I just know those days are gone. Watching amazingly good series like cowboy bebop, Kenshin, trigun and the numerous other shows we experienced as kids those days are long gone, but having another longer running series thats at least well liked I feel is a good move. The US needs more exposure to series like HxH and jojo's I feel like.

It's not so much a meme as it was true of weekday afternoon Toonami.
It is still... somewhat true of Saturday Night Fever Toonami. There're non-/a/ people who don't watch shit in Nipponese, either because they don't like having to read when action is going on or Nihongo Voice Acting is annoying to them.
So, they don't care enough to /a/, or watch even soggyroll's subs.
Things coming onto toonami, especially with it's weekly format, may get them to go and buy the discs, simply to finish it and have closure.
