well one of the ideas behind the upgrades, is that besides bringing XJ's 1-8 up to Jenny's level(who herself had already been upgraded to the equivalent of an XJ-10, which is another tale to get into) both physically and mentally, it's also to make them generally Human compatible(which was also one of the reasons for Jenny's upgrade prior to this), and that entails certain modifications, to quote myself from the pastebin;
