The only problem is that they don't use him with their tongue-in-cheek. Old Lobo wasn't a particularly deep parody and by the time they switched was little more than a caricature of a time period a lot of readers didn't remember. Nu52 Lobo was played straight-faced, but not so straight-faced it wrapped around into comedy.

I think the only mistake was not keeping him as a parody.
This Lobo should have been an over the top parody of the sexy tween drama emo vampire/werewolf/alien. He should have had some kind of sparkle related power and acid tears that melt any substance including Kryptonian skin.
