If anything, what they seem to be doing in that show with a new prominent character is more along the lines of chloe, however I think there's potential for it to actually work out well since she's actually got a pretty interesting and relatable premise (ignoring the whole reformed villain part)

You need to watch the S5 premiere and the S5 finale (both two parters), they introduce a new character who as of S6 has now become part of the recurring cast (depending on how things go, possibly to the point of warranting the term 'mane 7')
S6 only started last saturday but they made it pretty clear she's staying around with an important role
