Silly thing is, both Russos have said that they never really liked Cap growing up. They always felt he was too political and simplistic.

I don't understand. Does everything have to be a reference to something? When I was a kid I used to imagine action scenes all the time. I don't "camera looking back at character after character lands and camera follows character running down long object" always has to be a reference. Might be, sure, but not necessarily.
