The majority of VII's spinoffs were received with a lukewarm reception at best, even though VII basically pushed JRPGs to the forefront of popular genres of the time.
Dirge of Cerberus was pretty bad, Crisis Core was okay (great final battle though), and Advent Children looked great but was pretty goofy, all in all. Fights were cool but that's about it.

The complete cut is better. It's longer and if you weren't a fan of the game it's not going to win you over, but it fills in a lot of plot gaps, and also it explains whySephiroth shows up at the endwhereas in the initial version it just seemed kind of random.
