Nah, it is what it is, anon. It's Morrison reaction to that trend of making realistic and violent super hero comics. And as much as he tries to put on an act and come off as cool and uncaring to his creation, at the end his heart breaks and he doesn't care that what he's about to do is "unrealistic", he just can't bear to leave Buddy like that. The end of the run is still depressing as fuck but with that act he tricks readers because they can't see beyond that page where the fictional character's family magically comes back to life.
