So… I don’t do this very often. I hate wrestling with captcha and I’m not a fan of repetitive tasks, but every once and awhile I read a comic that is good enough to make me want other people to share in it. That’s when I storytime. If it is too good to not-share, I storytime it.
Tonight’s storytime is partially inspired by Batman v Superman. Maybe you hated it. Maybe you loved it. I don’t really care about any of that. This thread is more about a particular aspect of Superman that the Snyder movies don’t seem interested in. If anything, it’s about how Kal-El came to be the kind of guy we would deign to call Superman. He had to learn to be the kind of man that he is, right? Maybe this is how some of that happened. It’s about some defining moments that contributed to Clark’s character.
I think this is the kind of question Max Landis is trying to answer in Superman: American Alien. If you hate Landis and want to bitch about it, you are welcome to comment between the pages in this thread. If you’ve never heard of him, he hasn’t written many comics. He wrote the movie Chronicle, and he’s the son of the director John Landis. Can he write? check it out and make up your own mind.
This is one of the best comics I’ve read in a while. If you like it, please consider buying it to encourage more comics like it. If you hate it, feel free to say so. Every issue is different. Every issue features a different artist and covers a different part of Clark’s life pre-Superman. They proceed chronologically. Each story is standalone. They are all worth your time.
So, I’ve got a bottle of bourbon and the new Explosions in the Sky album on my headphones and I figure I’ll drink and post and listen until we are current. There will be 7 issues total in the series, so I encourage you to keep reading beyond tonight. But either way, I hope you enjoy. There have been 5 issue so far, and I will post them all.
