They botched the transition. Comics shouldn't play out like sweaty man-dramas, and they definitely shouldn't play out like '90s, bottom-of-the-barrel sweaty man-dramas - and yet, that's what we're stuck with. Harley Quinn's movement from side character to anti-hero is as bad as anything Delirious or Russo could come up with.
If you put the grimy backstory of the Katie Vick angle and the body count (in dead babies) of every fed's pregnancy angles in a blender, you'd get a story that's about on par with Nu Harley's entire run from the start of the Nu52 until now.

She was only ever interesting as a foil to Joker. She is only interesting when in love with the Joker. It's what makes her fun and psychotic.
Now, I will be the first to admit, I hate status qou. I hated that they evolved Riddlers character and then took it away (I liked detective riddler....) so going backwards with Harley isn't something I want to see.
She is what she is now. I don't really want to scream or yell "bring back old Harley!" because that'll do nothing good.

Comics Harley always seemed weird to me because... I mean making someone fall in love with the comics version of the Joker is a whole different kettle of fish than what animated Joker gets up to.
The worst thing that animated Joker ever did was that shit from the flashbacks in Return of the Joker. And he died for it. And Harley got on with her life.
Comics Joker does something as bad as that/worse in pretty much every single appearance he makes nowadays, and has more or less been on that level since the 80s, so Harley falling in love with him is less "Dumb lady with boring life falls in love with charismatic crime guy" and more "This chick is a serial killer groupie"

What's funny is that Deadpool since his inception never really came off to me as someone who's insane. I felt that maybe is was a way to conveniently explain how he is able to do the whole 4th-wall nonsense but he ultimately feels like a guy who enjoys being a goofball. He very much is capable of being a serious individual when the circumstance call for it; and a lot of the goofy, irrational things he does in the books happens because he can afford to do it.

Difference is Deadpool has been an anti hero for virtually his entire existence. And is constantly reminded and haunted by the bad things he's done. His morally questionable acts are pointed out by his supporting cast (All, German pilot girl, Preston etc).
Harley has been a full on villain for most if her existence. Time after time she'll skirt the good guys then be back with the joker killing innocents. Even if she sticks with the anti hero thing this time, she has no sign off guilt for her actions in the past. Until she takes some responsibility for her part crimes and feels guilty (wah the joker made me do it doesn't really cut it) she'll just be bomb queen with better pr.
