>And going high moral dudgeon on Penelope Pitstop's suit.
This is a totally unwinnable situation. She is an archetypal girly-girl character who often lacks agency and was invented literally because they needed a girl on the team, but if you modify her you're ruining yet another female character.

Although I get there's enough, ha ha, mileage in her normal character to go wild with it on a modern take.
>>
>>81241762
To be fair, all Lantern requirements are really vague and general. They basically boil down to "you have emotions, take this ring".

I probably won't be able to explain too well what I think lets down Insexts. A while ago people were talking about it here and some anon referred to something which was awful creepy (but artistically accomplished) Nausicaa hentai. This thing was about a million times more effective as erotic horror than Insexts because what was scary there - the bugs, the gore, the transformations, dependencies, pregnancies, etc. were all portrayed in an erotic light. The action was horrific, the setup was sexual.

I think that kind of repulsive dichotomy, or that repulsion which you can't help but connect to (in this instance because it is a violation of what you feel being human is) is something Insexts wants to achieve but doesn't do very well.

I would be in favour of it being more explicit though because I mean, who is it marketed to? What is it going to lose sails over if it were to be fully r-rated?

He doesn't like Aquaman, simple as that. The whole thing was clearly forced on him, that's why writers should never, ever write characters they don't like.

Just judging by the article, all the "horrificness" is assumed, with a dash of gender politics on the side.

>There’s definitely comedy here, too. After Harry’s *very* messy death scene (blood and entrails everywhere) Mariah picks up the egg that is left in his husk of a body, immediately ripping it open with her teeth (because of course that’s what you do…?) to liberate the wee baby inside, remarking “Oh, my lady! He has your hair!” before moving on to, “I’ll take care of the corpse, my ladylove.” They are hilariously unperturbed by the horror and gore of it all, and maybe that’s because they’ve experienced much, much worse just, you know, being women who inhabit the world. I think that the message here is that on the scale things that are truly horrific, sexual assault and misogynistic violence > blood and guts

Bruce went back and forth multiple times on whether or not he forgave Hal (multiple times as written by JMD, even) so I don't think acting like a paranoid dick again is somehow shitting on Bruce

>then gets decked accross the face (Batman, expert martial artist, is caught off-guard by some pilot who hasn't thrown a punch in years)
Hal fucking loves punching things, just because he didn't have to punch people as the Spectre doesn't mean he forgot how. Whether Bruce should be immune to sucker punches is one thing but I don't see how it's shitting on Batman

And then lets get to the SECOND part of why it's dumb.

Distrusting the guy who a few years back, murdered a few of his coworkers, is not being a paranoid dick. It's being mentally cognizant. "Wasn't me guys, previously unknown yellow bug mind controlled me into it."
Even given the superheroic milieu, it's a ridiculously shaky alibi.

Cry the fuck more. And for the record, Batman indeed isn't scary. He's a crazy rich dude in a bat costume constantly crying out for mommy and daddy. The epitome of pure terror to be sure.

Also, Lightning Lad wasn't shitting on him. The two didn't get along because Batman doesn't trust time travelers. Garth seemed to be mostly indifferent to him before he started being a douche.

Yes, but at least he had a connection to Superboy, he contributed to giving Kon his own identity. When you take that aspect of his origin and make it so he's the literal lovechild of an established hero and his archnemesis you're making him accessory to another character's story.
