It's serviceable. I enjoyed the movie while watching it, but found it worse and worse over time as I thought about it. The Furious Five push their jobbing skills to new levels - Mantis gets defeated offscreen for fuck's sake - and the villain's backstory isn't really explained at all. If we go by what little we get, he's pretty much just evil for the sake of being evil and has no personal connection to Po.

actual fucking plot spoilers btw500 years ago he was Oogways best friend and when Oogway was hurt in battle he travelled far to find someone to heal him and found a village of pandas that showed them the power of chi that could give or take life energy with that he learned that chi could basically give him unlimited power so he decided that would be rad but Oogway stopped him, he didn't have the chi power required to return from the spirit world but when Oogway died he took his Chi (it was revealed he took the chi of many deceased masters before him) and used it to return to claim the chi of the strongest masters of china to achieve ultimate power

It's not bad, but nowhere near as good as the 2nd one.
Yeah, the villain is really weak, story-wise, but still somewhat entertaining. We never really see his motivation for turning evil, we're just told he does. Outside of that, he's still easily the strongest villain thus far, and the most imposing. And the most humorous, what with the whole "nobody remembers who he is" thing that gets joked about a few times throughout the film.
I like to rank the movies by their individual strengths, though:
Visuals: 3 >>> 2 > 1
Story: 2 > 3 = 1
Villain: 2 >>> 1 > 3
Kung Fu: 2 = 1 > 3
I'm a bit of a sucker for the "2 dads" plot thread in the 3rd movie, though.

Definitely not on the same level as 2, but still worth watching. It's a logical continuation of Po's story and growth as a character and warrior, and much more connected to the previous movies, even further explaining some things from the previous movies and expanding the universe. Visually it's also the prettiest in the series.
The problems are the odd pacing, lesser villain (Kai is definitely serviceable and powerful, but just not as compelling as Shen) and too large of a focus on silly panda comedy. The soundtrack also has some good tracks, though overall it doesn't really reach the same heights as the previous one.

Problem with Kai is that his only connection is to a guy that has been dead since the first movie, while Tai Lung was Shifu's favorite student and Shen was the author of all of Po's pain.
Also, beating the jobber 5 gets less impressive with each new movie.

So they obviously went for the Body, Mind and Spirit threesome with their villains. I'm kind of curious why they decided to use Kai for the 'spirit' aspect, instead of something like an 'evil oogway', some kind of extremely ridiculously powerful old master in a frail old man's body. I feel like that would have a whole lot more potential for characterization and cool fight scenes and basically everything over Kai. It would even fit better into the panda village subplot if they kept that- an experienced wise mentor and his own army vs. some new kid who's trying to teach a bunch of roly poly retards.
It is a bit obvious, and maybe they were trying to avoid the obvious, but that also makes no sense because the whole reason the series got good is because it takes basic Wuxia plots and plays them completely seriously, it's not supposed to be subversive or massively clever and if this was an attempt at it then they seriously tripped up.

Tai Lung suffered from the movie he was in. The first KFP couldn't figure out what the hell it wanted to be. As a result, you get a couple of good, memorable scenes, and a lot of standard Dreamworks fluff. 2, and even 3, had a better grasp on what they were doing.

I like to think that it wasn't Kai who turned evil, but rather, Oogway who turned good. They were brothers in arms, generals of a massive army. This seems to be before Oogway was on the path to inner piece considering the time and the ear. He had a near death experience, was treated by and loved among the peaceful healers for who knows how long. It changed him. Meanwhile, Kai, who didn't seem to be on the receiving end of these gifts, simply saw it, and thought they could use it to become more powerful. Finish the east. Maybe get revenge on the people who had injured Oogway in the first place, assuming they were still alive. He thought Oogway would be right there with him. He was wrong. That's why he felt betrayed. But then again, you know. Headcanon.

Yeah, that's the thing that made Tai Lung and Shen so compelling: they had a personal connection to Po.

He didn't even use magic all that much. He just used it as an instant win button, summoned a few mooks, and briefly powered himself up.
Nothing in the way of actual spells though you could argue that the point of his character was that he was too much of a callow brute to use chi properly (derivation vs. Po and Oogway's creation ala the golden sigils), but in the end his battles and overall menace were very underwhelming as a result.
Fuck it, I got to see more Oogway being wise, badass and hilarious, so the movie is alright in my book.

He wants to conquer China, and the Soothsayer begs him not to. She argues that he´ll never have enough and that the path he has chosen will only lead to unhappiness and death. Shen believes it´s the only path he has, and then the Soothsayer says it.
That him leaving is what killed his parents.
For a moment Shen looks at all he´s done, everything he´s lost and he expects to win. And he only reaches one conclusion. I´ve gone too far to stop now. He tells the Soothsayer to leave and from than moment on he is more determined to win than ever.
A brilliant scene.

It's pretty much an alternate dimension with a great spiritual energy. I think Oogway didn't really die, he just realized Shifu would never grow as a master and accept Po if Shifu kept using him as a safety net, so he decided to leave the mortal realm. He stays in the spiritual realm to further meditate and achieve enlightenment or something. Notice how he "passed away" by flowing away with the peach blossoms, which in KFP3 signify a travel to the spirit realm. He didn't die but decided to leave the mortal realm, two very different things.
It's like in Avatar/Legend of Korra, where the spirit world is home of spirits and certain people of great spirituality (like Iroh).

Shen had that, and Tai Lung, of course, had his fight with Shifu, but Kai didn't get a scene where he had to justify himself to someone who knew him and disagreed with him. Well, there was the opening fight with Oogway, but Oogway gave up almost straightaway, and that was too early in the movie for it to work as this sort of scene if it were expanded out.
We also didn't get a "Po's not ready" part where it's established why he won't be able to take on the villain yet in #3 (until his first Wuxi Finger Hold tactic failed for thirty-odd seconds.) Hmm. Even though KFP3 stuck closely to the formula the previous two followed, it's rather like it skipped some vital parts.
