If it only had exploding wombs, it'd be edgiest comic to ever edge.

I think it nicely illustrates what Scott McCloud said in Understanding Comics.
If the art was cartoony, like in most over-the-top indie comics e.g. The End Of The Fucking World or Furry Trap, it would work - it would be scary becase cartoony artstyle would let us better empathize with characters.
But with generic realistic-ish art, it just removes the reader from the story and removes any possible tension, making it completely fail as a horror and remain just shitty horror porn.

Honest opinion it's forgettable mainly a gore fetishes dream and pushing the edge over the edge creating a paradox of edge which in turn is a bad thing.
In the end it gets boring fast the whole setup to crazy jump the shark killings and edge does not make for interesting material and makes it predictable I can't be shocked anymore the first one was good but than everything becomes boring very very fast.

My thoughts on the series really depend on th writer.
I think the original series by Garth Ennis was a great one. Then along came David Lapham and someone he focused on trying to increase the depravity whereas Ennis was more concerned with the survivor characters. Most writers decided to follow on the steps of Lapham, and that's where the series does not work. When, on the other hand, it's Ennis or Spurrier or Moore, they steer the series back to that "humans trying to stay human against ridiculously bleak odds" pattern, which works best.
I did kinda like the homo tortor story, though.
