You're confusing gender with sex. Hermaphrodite is a sex classification, of which humans are not included in. We can be intersex, but not hermaphroditic.
Your gender can be male, female, or something nonbinary, which includes other or "third" (not that there's a limit at 3) genders, or no gender at all. Basically if your gender doesn't match your genetic sex, you're trans. There's no set binary restriction to be considered trans, you don't have to stick within female gender/male genetics or male gender/female genetics to fall under the classification. People aren't trying to get special snowflake statues for being nonbinary, they're just classifying what they are. They aren't taking the piss out of binary trans folks.
