Don't worry, if they ever make a Dredd 2 she'll probably look as stone-faced and hardened as Dredd. Then she won't be cute anymore.

Stop reminding me Anon. Jesus, that fucking pace, that tone, that design work. It's such a fucking perfect film.

I saw it in theatres four times, I bought the DVD twice because they had that big drive to get it into the charts again. I've bought Underbelly and signed every petition.I've been itching like a crack addict for a sequel to this since day one.

I'm not even that into 2000AD.
>>
You guys do realize that even if a Dredd 2 ever comes about, it's going to be underwhelming and people will bitch about how it's not as good as the first, right?

Rule of thumb for something like this is always "bad end".
>>
>>81177744
Bullshit. They said the second one was going to be America, with Dark Judges being the third.

America the film would've been fucking sweet.
>>
>>81177800
No they wanted the second movie to be Day the Law Died
>>
>>81177815
I actually can't find any info at all on what storyline they were going to go with, dunno where I got America from.

Urban said it'd be an origin story, with Dredd going out to the Cursed Earth to find Fargo, while Garland said he'd like to start and end the film with Chopper, and also include Fargo, Giant, The Angel Gang and "a version" of Satanus.

Bring it to Netflix senpai, best case scenario.
>>
Maybe we can convince Ryan Reynolds to produce the sequels.

He's rolling in studio credibility after Deadpool, and he seems like the kind of guy who would be willing to become the patron saint of people who want comic book movies done right.
>>
>>81177744
Nah. If Garland got the chance to both write and direct it would have been good. Cursed Earth stories are always good. That's what was next.
>>
>>81174131
Did Karl yell a single time? I can't remember him doing it.

His Dredd was the fucking best. Totally cool and by the book. "You're still on assessment, rookie."

"Mama isn't the law, I am the law"

I'd love to have an outtake where the chief asks him, "So, is she a pass or a fail?" And Dredd responds. "She's a fail. She lost her primary weapon and let a guilty criminal walk free."

It didn't get the marketing/hype that BvS got. If BvS had gotten Dredd's marketing it would've been a colossal flop. I literally only ever saw one TV commercial for Dredd and it was on some off the wall station in the middle of the night. and It wasn't anything but like a 10 second "trailer."

How the he'll could they have managed the Dark Judges in this setting? It would be so out of place in this more realistic world.
>>
>>81188243
Well, why didn't you use the power of the Internet? You could have contacted the distributors or something, but noooo...
>>
>>81187644
There was NOTHING released for this film until six months before release. We had a cast list and we knew Dredd wouldn't take his helmet off. That's it.

We got no images, no trailer, no hype, until SIX MONTHS before release. To illustrate, Marvel CURRENTLY waits six months before their movie to release a trailer, because they know they can break even on brand recognition alone.

Garland's intent with world design was to base it far more in our world than the comics ever did. It's supposed to be feasibly grounded. It would take a lot of explanation for the Dark Judges to fit in.

That's key right there. As others have pointed out, Dredd got pretty much NO promotional love at all before release which was the nail in it's coffin.

40K and Dredd are cut from the same satirical British edge but what capecucks and normies refuse to understand is that despite the morals of the times they exist in being mostly alien and abhorrent to us, both the Judges and the Imperium are the closest thing to maintaining order and preserving any semblance of civilization or the fucking survival of the human race.
>>
>>81189721

I can't wait for 3D printing to kill them off and then someone with a brain buy their IP and put it to good use. It this rate even Disney would be worlds better.

>>81189876
This is also true. They're both about people making the best out of horrendously bad situations.

I never cared much for the new movie, mostly because of the setting. It just felt like Robocop with Dredd instead of Robocop, I forget if it even took place in Megacity 1 or if they actually called it dystopian future detroit, because that's what it was

>both the Judges and the Imperium are the closest thing to maintaining order and preserving any semblance of civilization or the fucking survival of the human race.
I think that argument holds more water in 40K than it does in Dredd. In Dredd you have space colonies that in cases like Insurrection were shown to survive better without Justice Dept's authorities, cities like Oz with more relaxed laws and even Cursed Earth settlements with more or less normal people. Like in 40K, you do have enemies who will stop at nothing short of the total annihilation of the human race, but the situation is much less dire once you look at the bigger picture.
Plus, Dredd does a great job of asking wether an existence like that is even worth it, which is the kind of deep-rooted thematic ambiguity that makes the strip so compelling.
>>
>>81189876
40k is probably poking more fun at authoritarian goverments than Dredd does and the deadpan gallows humour is exaggerated to such a degree that people might think it's 100% sincere at a first glance.

Hell, one of the original concepts with the Emperor was that he could just as well be a defunct ruler that did absolutely nothing, and just a corpse that a bunch of crazy morons still treated as their leader 10000 years after his death.

This was mostly satire of blind trust in authority and religion. Now sadly Games Workshop treats it less as satire.
>>
>>81190069
Mega City 01 has honestly seen more atrocities and cataclysmic events than the average civilized planet in the Imperium ever sees in centuries. The Justice Department is arguably more strict than even the Imperium when it comes to petty laws but the world they inhabit is legitimately MORE insane than 40K in many respects or at least on par, and it's only one planet.
>>
>>81190069
Doesn't Dredd share the same setting as Nemesis the Warlock that is basically the original source material for 40k?
>>
>>81190232
40K is less satirical now but as a consequence they've scaled back the Imperium to be more reasonable and more 'Lawful Neutral' than full-blown apeshit. Even the Space Marines act nicer these days, in Shield of Baal one even runs back into a tyranid swarm to rescue a cowering Guardsman.
>>
>>81190284
Yeah, I kinda hate this. It has taken the fun out the setting.

They share the same anthology, 2000AD, but not the same setting. Unless you want to get into Pat Mills' crazy-ass shared universe deal, in which case we're gonna be here a while.

>>81190246
I think it's also a matter of how focused the narrative in Dredd is. 40K's has enough worlds and enough narratives that the individual effect of, say, an Arbites arresting a dude for littering is less than inconsequential. Dredd, meanwhile, has a whole story devoted to it.
>>
>>81190359

So much this, I hope everyone has signed the petition. At this point though, I'd settle for a series of Animated features like the current DC stuff, based on the comics. Shit nigga even some of the Hellboy comics got adapted into a couple of cartoon movies. Being a Dredd fan is truly suffering.

I could imagine. There was an interesting blog he made regarding one of his influences for Torquemada being a pedophile monk he grew up with. So I figure hearing about the ideas and influences from a creative mind such a Pat's would be a pleasure for a director.
