She suffered more than anyone else in this series.

>simple technician following orders, she had no personal politics and just wanted to get her work out of the way
>every single simple task was met with militant left-wings acting destructive and disorderly, she had good reason not to put up with them
>dutifully reported on the scene to her higher-ups and rightfully dealt with these troublemakers; can't be held accountable for the actions of her escort and informant but even after apprehending the militants still got treated like shit just for wanting to do her job ("Go to Earth they said, it'll be easy they said")
>at this point is rightfully angry with them, you would be too
>can't even deal with them without losing a good chunk of her equipment; with no consideration has her limb enhancers (which are very important to her work; essentially is useless and defenseless without them) tossed aside and comes to in a place that's soon to completely collapse in on itself
>forced into the Crystal Gem lifestyle and mentality from there on in
>when she FINALLY gets a conference with her superior proposes some very sound ideas only to be AGAIN treated like shit just for trying to keep it together, rightfully says "fuck you" to her boss and now has no option but to accept life as a Crystal Gem on the doomed earth

To boot, just naturally going along with her work put her into this personal and philosophical crisis. I would never wish that on even my worst enemy.

Peridot gets to be free from her shitty life of being ordered around and gets to learn about beautiful shit for the first time. She's got it good now
>>
Her plight is no small one, but it's a commoner's plight. She has the privilege of being born into that kind of work and being conditioned to adhere to Yellow Diamond's standards of ethics and morality. She doesn't see any problem with it because she was never taught to think outside of it nor was she ever given a chance to live, act, and decide independent of it.

The whole point of Rose Quartz's rebellion was foregoing that predetermined lot in life that comes with being a Gem and realizing oneself as who they are who they wish to be, rather than just going with the pre-established order of things. What most people don't realize is Peridot's redemption is the prime opportunity for her own self-realization. Yellow Diamond was all she ever knew and all she ever understood, and now she doesn't even have that. Maybe now she can find the answers for herself.
>>
>>81029692
>>when she FINALLY gets a conference with her superior proposes some very sound ideas
Let's not go overboard. Peridot displayed mindboggling incompetence, and demanded to stop a project that was 5000 years in progress. Even if she had proposed any sound ideas (which she hadn't), Yellow Diamond was justified in shutting her down.

Nah, man it has a little bit more nuance than that.
Every character is a very subtle metaphor for a real life minority.
Where Garnet broadly refelcts the plight of homosexuals and Pearl reflects discriminationof black people or women, Amethyst stands for Diaspora. She's born on Earth but she sure as fuck doesn't count as an Earthling. Her actual place of origin considers her an outsider and a freak and she doesn't really know where she belongs. This is what being a second generation immigrant feels like.

>implying Yellow Diamond was wrong to turn her down

Oh sure, most of what happened to Peridot wasn't her fault, I'll agree. But when you have an empire to run are you really going to just up and take suggestions from a lowly worker to COMPLETELY OVERHAUL FUCKING EVERYTHING? A lowly worker who's barely keeping it together at that? Yellow Diamond did nothing wrong, except maybe put trust in Peridot and even that's hardly much of a discredit.
>>
>>81029692
I'm hoping YD is going to see that she was willing to be loyal and Peridot turns around from being redeemed right back to a villain when she is offered a power suit or something.

She's not incompetent just because the Crystal Gems beat her. She could not have anticipated the existence of a human-gem hybrid whose unique biology making it resistant to their technology would fuck everything up for them.

Her ideas were more logical than Yellow Diamond's, which were heavily rooted in irrational feelings of disgust and hatred for organic life. Peri was right to question her objectivity. All she did was suggest a practical alternative to the geoweapon as a compromise between Homeworld and Earth, which Yellow Diamond immediately rejected out of her irrational hatred for Earth. If she had any sense she would've listened to Peri and switched plans, because now the Crystal Gems are not only still at odds with them, they have just gained another member with an incredible wealth of up-to-date inside information, andare more motivated and resourced in fucking Homeworld up its ass than ever.
>>
>>81042062
>COMPLETELY OVERHAUL FUCKING EVERYTHING?

That's not really true, though. Shutting down the cluster wouldn't take a lot of effort, and you could repair the existing Gem structures or even build more without doing much damage to Earth. It would be less a traditional colony and more a recreational garden world/research facility, but there's still value to be had in that.

Hell, you don't even have to shut down the Cluster. Just put it to sleep and move it to one of the other planets in the Crystal System. It clearly doesn't need more life force to gestate.

Yellow Diamond is only wrong because not being a dick would take zero time and effort on her part and could have potentially huge benefits in the future. Instead, she's choosing to be a dick out of spite.

Lapis has probably been trapped for thousands of years. The Crystal Gems found her at the Galaxy Warp. Considering that the Galaxy Warp was the primary way on and off planet, it was probably dropped by a fleeing Gem during the war.

That means she has been trapped for a minimum of 5000 years.

We don't know what the situation is on homeworld. Jasper saw the rose quartz gem and immediately considered it top priority. >>81046039
That is an expected way to stop a burglar. Get shot it's his fault. Even if they cause property damage and shit on your baby and punch your wife -- tying up the burglar and doing bad things to him for a long time isn't just unexpected, but cruel and unusual. Which fits with what you said, punishment does not fit the crime

It is the consequence of breaking in in the first place yes, but not his fault which implies it is deserving. I can't separate the two words, fault and deserving (justified)
>>
>>81042495
Considering Lapis hates every other gem and vice versa, Shes undoubtedly going to be hanging around Steven more than anyone else.

Steven is getting his own followers, Hes becoming what rose was to the crystal to gems to the newer outcasts.

Lapis, Peridot and Connie will probably be Stevens crew, While the other Crystal Gems are off doing their own thing or MIA.

Steven will become the Rose of the new crystal gems, He will have to learn how to become more of a leader like his mother was.
>>
>>81046039
The difference is that shooting a burglar is a reasonable response - There aren't alternatives with major downsides.

Lapis was right next to the ocean - She could easily have stopped Jasper without torturing her for months.

Self-defense and cold-blooded revenge are very different things.
>>
>>81046157
This.
>>
>>81046157
I don't take fault as deserving. As taken from online dictionary
>2. Responsibility for a mistake or an offense;
I'm only talking about responsibility. There was a case a few years back where a burglar was caught by a woman living in the house he was robbing, and she tied him up and used him sexually for days. He didn't deserve it, but he was at least partially responsible for it. Same goes for Jasper. She don't really deserve what Lapis have been doing to her, but if she hadn't pressured a clearly mentally unstable gem into fusing with her, she wouldn't be in her current situation. It's her own fault.
>>81046260
And again, never said that what Lapis did isn't fucked up or wrong. Just that Jasper is at fault. She should have let her go.
>>
>>81046194
Getting lapis acquainted with all the other gems is essential for teamwork, there's no clear reason why they would need to split up. And peridot is already cool with the others.
>the original CG MIA
Not for more than an episode or two at the very most.
>>
>>81046194

Don't forget becoming earth's champion of humanity. He'll have all of Beach City and all the healed corrupted gems right behind him. I can't fucking wait.
>>
>>81046318
That's ridiculous logic. You don't blame the US for Pearl Harbor or a wife for being murdered by her husband.
>>
>>81046318
>clearly mentally unstable
>clearly
Lapis seemed pretty normal until Malachite. How would her lunacy be apparent to Jasper
>>
>>81046372
Not that anon but those examples are unprovoked. Not a proper comparison.
>>
>>81046372
Which are dumb analogies since, those are one part attacking another without provocation, while Jasper was the original attacker, and Lapis was the reactor attacking back. When Japan got fucked up by the US it was their own fault. When the husband got thrown in jail, it was his own fault. Stop being an idiot.
>>81046395
Lapis already seemed unhinged to me, but I'll give you that that was through interaction with Steven, which Jasper didn't see.
>>
>>81046448
>those are one part attacking another without provocation
You think those two things happened for no reason?
>>
>>81046408
Neither of those were "unprovoked". Both had reasons for attacking.

Anon was suggesting that proportionality doesn't affect blame, which is ridiculous.
>>
>>81046318
So you're just nitpicking the word responsibility out of "fault"? And disregarding the other meanings or implications of the word? Why not just use that word in ten first place then

And let's take a look at "responsibility"
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/responsible

I'm not seeing how Jasper is responsible for Lapis' cruel and unsual actions
>>
>>81046346
Peridot sure, But compared to the rest of the gems shes dead weight and more Steven's level, Peridot would be a great match-up for misadventures with Steven.

Lapis on the other hand absolutely despises everybody, Shes probably going to be loner again, Since what is getting in the way of her teamwork between with the crystal gems is much deeper than peridots.

If Lapis is going to become a part of the main cast shes going to need a major nerf, Maybe the only reason she was so powerful was because she was charging up in a mirror for so long, After raising an entire planets ocean and jailing a complete brute to a fusion then losing control, She really has to be weakened by now.
>>
>>81046463
No, but what the US did is blurry as to weather it could be considered a provocation to war, and no example was given in the murder case, so it could be yes.

>>81046500
answerable or accountable, as for something within one's power, control, or management (often followed by to or for):

2.
involving accountability or responsibility, as in having the power to control or manage:

Both of these apply to Jasper. She had the power to not force herself on Lapis, but she did anyway. She was in control of her own actions. It's her own fault.

>I'm not talking about blame, I'm talking about fault.
Are those not the exact same thing?

>>81046554
>No, but what the US did is blurry as to weather it could be considered a provocation to war
And what Jasper did ISN'T blurry as a provocation to torture?

Any guy who kills his wife feel like she deserves it in some way. That's why it happens in the first place.
>>
>>81046583
I can accept "at fault" here as meaning "is the first link in the chain of events"

But I work really totally rather use a different word. Too many other possible implications.
>>
>>81046608
No they aren't.
Forcing herself onto someone else is a clear provocation. Lapis did the same to Jasper, but at a bigger scale.
Had the US shot down a plane, it could be seen as a war related provocation. But closing of their oil supply is still being debated as to wether or not it was a clear provocation.

>>81046635
I think it might be a "translation error" since I'm not a native english speaker. In my own language, you can be at fault for something, but not be deserving.
>>
>>81046528
Oh hell yeah, infinite water power gem who lives on a beach needs to be taken down a notch for the sake of the narrative
>>
>>81046685
>translation error
Well, that solves it. The word certainly carries implications, so using it in this situation is innapropraite given your views.
>>
>>81046685
>Forcing herself onto someone else is a clear provocation.
She grabbed Lapis roughly and asked her to fuse. That is not REMOTELY close to provocation for torturing someone for months on end.
>>
>>81046726
Lapis saw it as her being hold down against her own will, and is doing the same to Jasper. She was provoked into doing what she did, even if she's clearly overreaction. She should just have beaten Jasper up with some water physics, and then walked away. But Jasper shouldn't have grabbed her like that to begin with.
>>
>>81046775
That just goes back to the "murdering someone for hitting you" argument.
>>
>>81046775
>saw it as being held down against her will
Well, fusion is more like making each other disappear for a time then falling out of the fusion soon enough. Or at least that's how it's supposed to be.

Though I bet neither of them could've predicted just how malachite would be, not a blended fusion at all. Just them too mashed together really (until malachite took over late at point as we could infer from the leak)
>>
>>81046775
Jasper is not at fault for the Lapis rape, Jasper did not provoke the Lapis rape
Repeat after me
>>
>>81046867
Jasper was the first link in the chain of events, no hidden nuances here
>>
>>81046824
People don't always respond with relative force when provoked. It's kind of what provocation implies. You can do shit that's even worse than the thing that provoked you in the first place.

>>81046841
I was talking more about the physical act of pulling her down, when she tried to fly away, and then keep her in a tight grip while looming over her. She had been imprisoned in a mirror for who knows how long, only to be taking into custody when she arrived home, dragged back to the place she had fled from, and then put in a jail sell. She was tired of being "hold down" and what Jasper did was the final straw. So now she wanted to be the one to held somebody else down.

>>81046867
As I said it might be "translation error", but to me it's "Jasper is at fault for the Lapis rape(at least partially), Jasper definitely provoked the Lapis rape, BUT Jasper does not deserve the Lapis rape.
>>
>>81046528
>But compared to the rest of the gems shes dead weight
She's repeatedly given all three main CGs trouble all by herself, using only what she can scrounge up on an alien world or tech that she's not accustomed to. Peridot demonstrates incredible resourcefulness and rapid learning, not to mention she's more logical where the others are more emotional. They need someone like her on the team.

I mean jasper sort of lost her life as a homeworld gem but she still chose that when she disobeyed her superior. For how tyrannical the diamonds seem she was way more forgiving to the incompetent, impetulent tech support hijacking her secured channel to shit talk her plans
>>
>>81046915
Then there's that angle of Jasper not knowing about the mirror or anything. This was originally brought up in regards to "Jasper provoked the Lapis rape." Seeing this fact, it's clear she did not provoke such a thing. Merely set it off. Link in chain of events.

>Jasper is partially at fault for the Lapis rape.
No, again Jasper is just the link in the chain of events. "Fault" is innaproriate here and not neutral.

The way she handled Lapis is still no way to handle a person in general, and was a shitty move. You can still provoke someone without the knowledge that you're doing it. It's not always an intentional act. Provoking means to set something in action so it still fits.
And we can argue the use of "fault" all day, since I only have the dictionary definition to go by, and don't have the same cultural associations with the word as you do.

Regardless of their own actions, here's the gems in descending order of fucked-upedness

>Sapphire: lived as royalty but chose to give it up for a perfect GF
>Steven: grew up broke with no mom and felt the pressure of having to fill her shoes
>Peridot: lived as a civil servant but ended up trapped on a primitive world
>Ruby: nearly executed for a mistake and lives with the guilt of suspecting she ruined her lover's life
>Amethyst: Lost her adoptive mother, routinely insulted by the only people she cares about, regrets her own birth
>Jasper: lived as a sex slave for months
>Pearl: lived as a slave for thousands of years, got cucked by a man who killed the woman she loved
>Lapis: Imprisoned for 5000 years in a mirror. Came home to a world that she couldn't understand and was immediately imprisoned again. Spent months struggling to remain in control of her captor only to become her sex slave
>Clusters: killed and reduced to zombified fragments. Buried alive for 5000 years until the pressure fuses them into rape-zombies with parts from an untold number of other corpses

Yeah, peridot isn't even close in terms of suffering

Peri's had it easy compared to just about every member of the cast

>Pearl is a shell shocked veteran of a war she never really cared about fought for a master who abandoned her

My theory on that is that either Matt was lying out of his ass, they had a schedule that was in fact pretty good and then CN decided to change it without warning, or they were given a general schedule that WILL be good, but CN never gave them an actual date for it, and Matt just assumed that it would happen soon. Pretty much everyone thought that this thing would be over by mid-February, it doesn't seem impossible that Matt might have thought that too.

The real villain here is definitely CN's scheduling and marketing departments, I don't know what the fuck they're doing. It's not just SU either, it's pretty much every show that isn't TTG and the Powerpuff reboot that's getting shafted, with AT getting slightly less shafted than the rest.

She wanted more than that. She dared to dream of a world where the Homeworld where able to do their business, and still enjoy all the nice things on Earth. She is a true hero, and the bestest gem to haver ever lived.
>>
>>81054058
What, you're saying that she's like The Boss of SU?

I think Steven's got it worse. He's got a shit ton of pressure on him, and he has way too much for someone like him to live up to. What if he doesn't become as powerful as Rose was, like the Gems expect him to? What if he can't fuse with the Gems, like they (especially Garnet) expect him to be able to do? What if he is killed and can't reform or regenerate?
Steven is the very first of his kind, and he's growing up and being trained by the ones that his mother knew and loved the most in the cosmos. He'll probably never, ever get to meet his mom, he'll never ask her who she is or who he is, and he'll never ask her to tell him about herself.

He's surrounded by humans and Gems that he love, but he himself is alone.

The boss? She is Steven Universe! (The show, not the fat kid)

Haven't played MGS, so that wasn't my first thought. Though for some reason my thoughts still went there.
>>
>>81054411
Basically, The Boss betrayed her home country in order to unite the world, was then killed by her home country, gave her last will, got misinterpreted and rejected that made the world into shit, and she's remembered as an evil person.

>>81054483
I guess that fits then.

Each gem has some sorta form of suffering or suffered some kind of loss or hardship with each being unique to them and them only, which is fine because it helps build character and show that they are more than just bright colorful magical characters with just happy thoughts and silly moments.

It shows that even the most magical of beings suffer just like the rest of us and have hardships like anyone of us have, and thats what makes then relatable and "human" than just some dumb supermen doing silly and funny stuff.

Lapis has got to have the most hardships on her than peridot.

Granted, Peridot's situation is very scary for her as she just made her complete ruler hate her and is trapped on a planet that will eventually torn itself apart but Lapis has dealt harder.

Stranded inside a mirror for who knows how long, damaged and hurt and alone.
And once she returns home, she is captured and forced to come back to Earth by two gems she hates.
Then she fuses with a aggressive self minded gem and forces the fusion into the ocean for months on end.

Lapis has had some shit.

I just want you all to know that if I get cancer or something, I'm gonna go on some kind of media blast to get whatever info I can on unaired episodes, Sugar's grand plan, whatever, then leak it for you. If they let me watch unaired episodes, I'll secretly record them for you.

if they won't give me shit, I'll sacrifice myself to break in to CN and steal them, leak them, then die, hopefully before going to cartoon jail, but if so, it would be worth it.

I'd do this for you, anti-/sug/. I'd do it for him.

Your Ruby point doesn't make sense. Sapphire was supposed to die to end the rebellion.

Those two have had a seemingly sunny life.

>>
>>81060226
Did you even watch that episode you Omega-3 faggy acid

Ruby's intervention threw Sapphire's whole foreseen life off track; up to that point she'd been seeing a single path for herself, rather than the "branching river" as Garnet first describes it to Steven. It probably took her a long damned time to learn how to re-adjust her natural precognition that way.

Yeah, all of the dubs for Steven Universe are really good, with the Italian and French dubs being the stand outs.
