I was pretty miffed that I wasn't able to access an Imax theater until days after it was replaced by cloverfield.
3D just makes movies a bitch to watch. The glasses aren't entirely transparent and make the screen a whole lot darker as a result, if you try to take them off you get the luminosity back but it's a blurry mess, and if the movie is long you're going to feel your nose for quite some time afterwards.
All of that for a special effect where the only "spectacular" exploitation of it is ads about candy before the movie even starts.
