It actually stops being S&S after the 25th issue, then goes back to being pretty S&S around #150 before moving away from S&S a little before #200.

The plot seems to be about a Dragon riding barbarian that was sent to save a lord's daughter or wife. I remember his dragon died because it was about to give birth and he had to cut the new born out of it's womb. Depends on what time frame Guts. Current Guts with Berserker Armor could take him no problem. Really I'd put my money on any Guts post-Eclipse. Admittedly the only Conan I've read was the first fifty issues or so of the Dark Horse series so he could have some absurd feats elsewhere but in those he gets overwhelmed by large groups occasionally and pre-Eclipse Guts could kill 100.
Basically Guts is OP as shit especially with the heavy use of magic. Conan's power level is a lot more realistic and his world is a lot more grounded than Guts'.

The Busiek run was great (got the trades but haven't read them all yet) haven't bothered to get the trades from after he left, so no idea. I got back on Conan the Barbarian for the Brian Wood run, there is an overall story that all takes place when Conan and Belit were together. I was a bit unsure about the whole changing artist every story arc (3 or so issues) but some of them I'd never heard of before and ended up being great. Overall I prefer it to the current Conan the Avenger.
