the movie had all of its own various attributes and stereotypes to all the different species, not one species was supposed to be a direct reference to any specific race, thats why its social commentary works so well. its a big part of why it doesnt come across as judgemental or preachy. why can't people just look at things in more basic terms instead of having to attach specific labels to everything they see. i swear the whole world is turning autistic because they cant ever look at things without them being clearly "defined" under their terms.

The problem is we wouldn't be having this conversation if they were both drawn white. Humanizations strangely don't draw much negative attention until a character who sounds isn't white, in most cases, which ignores the fact that people can be whatever race and sound a different race, and, in this case, that the story was about characters and their natural differences in a story about prejudice. It's also a humanization of the movie's message.
That's not to say that's the only way to do it because the movie's message was so general.
